Hello all ..
Just pick up a 84 fl250 in amazing shape..
The only problem I have is the lights up front and the rear tail lights..

I am in desperate need of a good guide to help walk me through the possible problems and help me figure out what wires are what ..

It's been 30 years since I last worked on one...

These guys have been great in the past: http://pilotodyssey.com/

I'm sure some folks on here have knowledge to share, too.

Assuming it's wired like an old hardtail ATC...

Yellow is light power from stator to light switch.
Green is ground.
Blue is high beam from switch to headlight.
White is low beam from switch to headlight.
Brown is tail light.

You can check for AC voltage (yes AC) at the lights with a mulimeter - black wire in green plug, red in blue white or brown depending on what your checking (with the engine running).
If you have voltage, you just need new bulbs. Generally if one burns out, the other bulb fails shortly after.

If no voltage, check the yellow wire coming out of the stator for AC voltage. If no power, the the lighting coil is bad. If yes power, you have a connection, wiring, or switch problem.

Did the red FL250s have a connector to allow removing the cage?

How about some pics?

I have a soft spot for the original Odysseys - we had 2 growing up - our first ATV was a 79 my dad brought home in the back of our Chevelle wagon!
