I'm a lover of old machinery, most of my odd machinery collection is lawn mowers, but I just couldn't resist this old gem. 1936 ish Vaughan CO flex tread garden tractor. Very hard to find, even in this condition, which is actually very complete and non molested. Made the trip up to Clare Michigan today and picked her up! Can't wait to start in on it! Got a couple projects in front of it currently, but should be in good shape by winter freeze up to get working,on it!

What does someone get for something like that?

I gladly paid 900$ for it. I've seen one sell at auction for 4000$ in running condition. And it wasn't all that pretty.

Very cool, I always wanted one of those. Not many in New England.

I saw one like that doing a demonstration at a fair when I was a kid. The one I saw had a seat on it. It made quite an impression. Did other company's make them or was this it?

I have another Vaughan co with a seat, all my literature shows them with handles, but information is limited. There were similar ones made, chain tread and windolph. Chain treads are even smaller walk behinds, windolph is a slightly larger machine but are ride ones. I'll post some more pics of my others here soon.

I found an old Bobcat snow thrower in someones backyard.

I'm gonna try and get it for the other house's.

I worked on them with Fabio one time and realized why he likes them so much; They're built very well....

Did a little work on the flex tread today. Had a rain day so I poured a section in uncle's crawler shop, fiddled around with mine as I had time.
Peeked in the gear boxes, nothing is rusty, freed up a couple levers. Curiosity got the cat, few beers helped, pulled the crankcase inspection cover, no rust! Still had "oil"in it, tried turning engine over some more. No dice! Sat and pondered it a bit, yep, heads Coming off. To bad they stored it outside without the spark plug... Not bad I guess. Still stuck tho!234695

Crappy pic, I was tired. More info this weekend. Stay tuned , got some eye candy coming for the guys who like to crawl...

Wow, That's some old stuff! Water/corrosion kills allot of great parts...

Bore it, top end kit, lap in or replace the valves, blast the parts and paint/coat em

Nice simple old motor...

Here's a couple more pictures for ya. The small one is my uncle's ride on Vaughan flex tread, original condition and is one of 3 known. The bigger orange one is a windolph, haven't started it since he bought it! Guy just likes looking at them, I like using them and or just parading around on, and listening to the clack clack of the tracks

Those are nice and I can't wait to see the newest treasure done! I have a soft spot for the old weird stuff.
