So here is the 250sx I picked up for $500.00.... and even though my buddy says it is just an excuse to have another trike, I bought it for my wife! She doesn't know it yet! I took it for a spin this morning and it runs fine. Needs a good tune up as the RPMs die out in 4th gear... however after running it for a a few minutes, 4th gear cleared up and ran fine... so it just needs cleaned good and tuned up. I have a new seat and cover on the way and will be doing some body work and putting the rear rack back on and of course new tires all the way around before giving it to her.

Looks like you got her an '86 judging by the tank color and assuming it is original to the bike...

Holy worn Wooley Boogers!

Definitely looks like it needs a little TLC, but it sounds like you are already well on your way to getting it looking good.

Enjoy!

Anybody know what the stock size of tires were on this thing? I ordered a Kenda front max for the front (same size that's on it now) but the rear has 25x13 tires on it..... Which is cool but seem way too big for a 250.... What do you think? I am thinking I want to put bearclaws back there. Should I do the 25x12.5 or go down to a 22x12?

Thanks guys... the current tire on the front is a 20x7x8..... I ordered a Kenda Front Max in that size. They make the Front Max in a 22x11x8 but, it doesn't look like 11 inch wide would fit between the forks....

It will fit, the SX came with 22x11x8 all the way around.

Ok, got the 20x7-8 traded in for a 22x11-8. For the back tires... I was considering Bearclaw 22x12-8, but, should I save the money and get these instead: https://www.amazon.com/WANDA-Tires-22X11-8-Dimple-Knobby/dp/B00KNM29JK/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1475691056&sr=1-2-fkmr0&keywords=ambush+tires+22x11-8

I don't have any experience with either tire, but I have never heard of the brand Wanda... Myself, I would stick with an established and reputable brand

figured you might say that haha.... what am I losing on an ATC going away from a knobby tire?

Those appear to be the same Nankang/wanda/Hi-Run/greatride/slowride knobby, the molds for which seemingly get passed around from company to company every few years:wondering...having had 3 sets of the same pattern tire, i think they do pretty good. But they have a lot of side bite and a lot of sidewall flex and they don't slide, although they look right at home on a hardtail trike.

They meet the basic minimum requirements for a tire, they hold air and they roll. Not trying to sway you either way, really, but all those like that i have seen are only 2 ply tires. $40 for a no name tire, $60 for a reputable 6-ply tire, that $20 bucks could mean the difference between a fun day out, and lop lop lop lop all the way back to camp,

The vast majority of tires, regardless of branding, are made by only a few companies.

Wanda tires are ok. Far cry from the bear claws though, not sure if you really know what you want.

I definitely don't know what I want lol.... I run mudlites and hole shots on my quads and always wanted to try bearclaws so thinking that's what I'll do here. Only reason I question it is I really like my knobby scorpions on the tri-z. I guess i am a little weird and want to try different tires on each machine

Nothing wrong with experimenting. I'd say that you need to decide what kind of riding you want to do before you buy tires. If you like to play in the mud, then get the Bear Claws. Otherwise, the knobbies may be what you want. Just remember that they will puncture easier than the 6 ply tires.

We mostly do trail riding... however some of the trails are very steep and really rocky. The mudlites do great on the quads, but, I have heard great things about bearclaws and just wanted to try. Very very little mud... nothing more than mid size to large mud holes less than a foot deep at the most. We have 130 acres of land in the mountains that we ride on.

I have been in this same dilemma. I have an 85 SX that I want new tires for. I have been pouring over old forums to get ideas. Some say to stick with 2ply for the cushy ride and they are more gentle on the hardware. Others like the stiffer, tougher 6ply tires. I finally pulled the pin on a Kenda Front Max in 22X8-10 and bought a 10" wheel. Still have not bought rear tires. I think I will go with stock Scorpions when the time comes. In the meantime, I have some old Ohtsu's that still have some life in them or I can swap the new Deestone 930's on my 200S.
