The service book says you take an old chain or wire and insert it into a two stroke expansion pipe to clean out the carbon. Does anyone have any other good teqniques I have seen a few guys on YouTube heat up the pipe and burn the carbon out with a flame, that's a little nuts. I have a can of carb choke cleaner and have been spraying that inside. Any other good ideas, trying to clean a fmf fatty pipe off of a 1986 250r.

Thanks,
Andrew

When I rebuild a pipe I take a MAPP torch and heat every inch of the expansion chamber cherry red and burn the carbon deposits out. It's not nuts, it works. Just do it on a concrete floor or outside. Lots of flames and smoke. Once it's cooled tap on the pipe and watch all the carbon come out.

The map gas tourch will not discolor the crome finish on the fmf pipe?

It will, but you could polish it out. I have a buffing wheel that I use if the chrome is discolored afterwards.

I don't know if you can chuck this up in a drill, but this may be an alternative if you are worried about discoloration.
