I have a 1984 Honda 200 ES that has a spark problem. For a while I was able to start it and ride it for a few minutes and then it would shut down, usually after a short hard ride, and it wouldn't restart.
I would seem to loose spark. Every time I hit the electric start I would get 1 spark and no more. I've used new plugs, replaced the coil, cleaned all the wiring connections and grounds, still no luck.
I just got a new cdi box , but I think it is for a 200s and when I plug it in I get a reverse light on the dash and no electric start. If I unplug it , the light goes off and the electric start cranks , but obviously no spark.
I suspect the original cdi is bad and the new one is the wrong one, or possibly the pickup coil is bad.
Any Ideas

Sounds like a bad stator. You can test the wires coming from the stator with an ohm meter and the correct ohm reading is listed in the manual.

99% of the time it's the cdi on the 84 200es
. It's a one year part and it's still available new from Honda .
Got to partzilla.com for the best price .

The 200s stator will not work
