The arrest is new, but the stories aren't. That kind of thing was part of daily life for a while. We ride in that State it's next door to me and has great mountains and deserts.

I've become numb to this sh*t. Saw a dead body on my way to the airport last week and all I could think about was that if it was laying another 10' to the right of the road I might have missed my flight due to traffic. Then last night a guy I'm traveling with hands me his cell phone which is playing video of some guys know as Aghori eating skin off a human body they pulled from the river that day. He took the video himself and invited me to come see it my them for myself on the weekend.

The world is a fu*ked up place. I've got $10 Pesos that say the politition walks on the charges.

Crazy compositions? Who grades those essays?

Just got back from a Google journey investigating the Aghori. Yikes!

These essays have a very important job to do, they supply the American junkie.

It's a huge responsibility and efficiency and loyalty are needed to get the job done right and on time. If your healthcare system was run by the same people it would be very affordable. Think about it, 40 years ago a gram of pot was 10 bucks. That same gram of pot is still 10 bucks, zero inflation!

In fact based on the decreasing value of the dollar pot has gone down in price over the years. All this is thanks to a very efficient system of cultivating and transporting it to the consumer. You could even say that with prices like that they're killing the competition.

Now just imagine the guy I've been hanging with for the last three days goes into the jungle looking for these guys and watches them chow down. He also has attended an annual ceremony where some sort of stone God which is stored underground in a box full of blood is hoisted up and kept present while goats, chicken and other things are sacrifice to it. These people are said to live with the dead mentally and consider themselves to be a very high form of being in terms of their awareness of the universe. He told me that they look right through people like me, like I don't even exist they won't talk to me or knowledge my presence. Which is good, you know just in case they have a craving for white meat that day.

EL, you must know exactly how to avoid these areas I imagine??

Imagine, (or you must already know), how many innocent people end up in the wrong area and at the wrong time.

Imagine, (or you must already know), how many innocent people end up in the wrong area and at the wrong time.

Scary stuff!!....

There are some common sense methods of staying out of harms way, but nothing is ever certain. I've pulled up to numerous vehicles that were occupied by guys armed with "cuernos de chivo" or "goats horn" which is what the Mexicans call AK47's. As soon as you realize what you're looking at you get yours eyes straight ahead, keep both hands visible on the wheel and never, ever, ever pick out your cell phone! Same goes for when you're near military or "fuerzas especiales" or Marines, both hands high on the wheel and no cell phones. They don't have to full out a lot of paperwork if they decide to fire first.

Others would be:
- If you think someone is following you don't go home, go where there are people or cameras
- Don't go out late. At one time that meant 8:00pm, but it's better now, 1:00am is still pretty save and work traffic now starts at 5:00am rather than 6:00.
- Don't flaunt your wealth. That one seems to be open to interpretation. I recall listening to a serious discussion with some guys who decided it was too dangerous to be driving around in BMW's so they were debating a downgrade to Audi's to make it look like they didn't have money (I'm not making this up):wondering
- Good jewelry and watches don't get worn to pubic places, just wedding and private functions
- Don't go to places you aren't familiar with
- Don't honk at vehicles with tinted glass
- Avoid selling expensive things like a used car from your home using the newspaper, or Internet if possible
- Vary your schedule's

My own policies are to never wear a wedding ring, or keep photos of my wife or daughter on me. If I get grabbed I will only speak English and insist I'm single and alone in the country. I also keep the location finder function of my phone off and make sure any photos I share with anyone have the coordinates removed. A lot of kidnapping (and subsequently rapes) happens because the bad guys are getting information off of Facebook. Only once has there been an attempt on me, but I don't know if they wanted me or just the truck. Because of the lack of execution I suspect just the truck, but it was still scary as hell. I also shred any papers with numbers, or names on them before I toss them. I often travel with a dummy wallet filled with old ID and expired cars and a small amount of cash. The good stuff stay in another pocket. I get jacked in a restaurant (fairly common occurrence) and they get the dummy wallet. I also don't stop on the highway if I can help it, keep moving!

Some of my "too close to home" experiences:
- The guy who was registered as our accountant daughter's was kidnapped and murdered
- The guy who owned our lawyer's firm was murdered
- A guy I drank with a few times who sold me some "personal insurance" was shot in his truck near a small town along with another guy. They were in law enforcement (if there is such a thing here)
- Two of my nephews (wife's side) have been car jacked and roughed up
- A riding buddy's niece was kidnapped (they got her back)
- Two of my friend sons were kidnapped (one of them twice) under various circumstances, they are both ok now.
- Two business associates we kidnapped (both are safe now)
- Numerous friends have been jacked in restaurants
- Buddy's wife knocked to the ground and relived of her purse at gun point in broad daylight
- The lady that cuts my hair has been robbed at gun point a few times inside the shop
- They tried to kidnap a friend, but he escaped in a way that should have been made into a movie
- They tried to kidnap a friend's uncle, but he escaped by fighting his way out of the car and running across a busy road
- They tried to car jack and kidnap a friend, but he tossed the keys of his Mercedes and ran like hell. Now he has an Audi:lol:

There are many other third party stories, but these are a few that come to mind. Still plenty of places in Canada the USA that seem more dangerous to me than Mexico if you're just minding your own business, but that's not what makes the news. Our city's murder rate at it's peak was nothing compared to Chicago's, so you have to put it all in perspective.

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know WTF can happen, so enjoy a chocolate while you can

Years ago some of my friends were on a group vacation, (3 couples) and they rented a jeep for a day and went driving. They were driving down a rural "goat path" road barely wide enough for their vehicle and they met up with some Mexicans in another vehicle coming from the other direction. The Mexicans all had AKs. My friends were naturally skeered sh!tless. The Mexicans told my friends they were hunting Iguana 237131

On this same trip one of the guys ordered some sort of "chicken dinner" and when is was brought to the table wondered aloud "Since when do chickens have elbows?"

Thank you for reminding me how facked up things are in the new world ! .....plan-B move to Kansas !

That's spread out over 10 years. It's getting better, but it won't be what it was 15 years and farther back for a long, long time (if ever). Come visit, then decide.

A little background on my buddy…

He’s in his mid-30’s now. I met him in 2004 when we hired him as a “practicante” or assistant as part of his university course in international trade. They make everybody work for about 6 months in the real world before they let them out on the street. The rich kids usually get on at a relative, or family friends, but this kid earned his stripes the hard way.

Real sharp kid, him and his brother taught themselves English by watching American cartoons and speaking to each other in English as the public school they went to didn’t teach it and the family didn’t have the money to send them to a private school at that time. Even in that environment (our public schools are a joke) he managed to get himself some sort of partial scholarship at the most highly regarded university in Mexico known as “The Tec”. People come from all over the world to study there; it’s basically a copy paste of the MIT.

The Maltove hit song “Frijolero” was at the top of the charts back then and a few of the guys at work were referring to me as “The Beaner” at the time, so as my side kick he was immediately dubbed “Little Beaner” a name that has stuck with him since in our circle of friends. As he was growing up his father had built up a retail steel business in Chihuahua that was doing pretty well up to the Calderon era when it became a war zone. As the kidnappings and extortions started happening they had to make a decision on whether to close the business or try to keep it going.

They decided to keep running it and Little Beaner was tasked with securing the place. First order was to build a secure office. I’ve never seen the place, but he told me all about it as he was building it. I believe the walls were 12” thick concrete laced with rebar and set up to facilitate a long term barrage. The door would have been like a vault and the windows were bullet proof.

They also had a varying work cycle. No one in the family ever came in at the same time, or worked the same schedule, so it might be his sister on Monday, him on Tuesday and his brother on Wednesday, etc. They also had a detailed entry plan that included the use of multiple vehicles and a system of entry to the facility which contained a guard that was locked inside the place every night with no means to get out, or let anyone in.

After leaving home in whatever vehicle they would take a varying route to the warehouse. Then they would circle the block the warehouse was located on looking for any parked vehicles either with occupants, cars with blacked out windows, or if any of the employees outside signaled that there was anything wrong. If anything looked out of the ordinary, or if they felt they were being followed they would return home without stopping at the warehouse. If all looked well they would pull up to the front gate with the vehicle still in gear (this is critical) and hand one of the employees the key to the gate through a slightly opened vehicle window. The employee would then open the gate and everybody would come in and close the gate behind them. The vehicle would be covered or hidden and he would lock himself inside the office. Then the gate would be opened back up and they would begin to accept clients.

Nice way to live eh?

One day he was coming to work and noticed a beat up black car with blacked out windows and Texas plates (very common on the Mexican side of the border), but it was a ways off on another block, so he disregarded it and pulled up to the gate to hand an employee the key. As he was reaching over to pass the key through the passenger window two vehicles charged up and boxed in his Cherokee from the front and back, one of them being the black car he’d noticed. A guy and a girl jumped out of the car and onto his hood, each with a pistol pointed at his face through the windshield. At exactly that moment the locked passenger side door of his truck popped open and another guy with a gun was yelling at him to get out of the vehicle. (well get to the opening method later).

These are his words as best as I remember them:

“Dude, it was crazy! Everything went into slow motion, like it wasn’t happening even though it was. I had been thinking about what I would do if this ever happened for months and suddenly it was happening and I just did what I always planned to do. I was still in drive, so I floored the truck and rammed the car in front of me. The bit*h and her fu*cking boyfriend went flying. Then I put it in reverse, cut the wheel hard and rammed the car behind me and my door got ripped off and the fu*king guy with the gun was just standing there like “WTF???” I never let off the gas; I think I was driving backwards faster than I ever drove forwards in my life! I drove backwards for like 3 blocks, and then started driving around looking for a cops, but then I remembered that they might be part of this so I started looking for a military patrol, but I didn’t find one. Then I remembered that I had no door on my truck and it was all fu*ked up, so I went home and called my parents to tell them not to go to work, Dude I was shaking so bad!”

So he came to MTY to lay low for a while and some friends of friends did some investigating and a few months later that particular danger was dealt with in ways that would only make you smile. I never got the full explanation, but enough winks and smiles have been exchanged to know what happened to them. All indications is that they were Americans from El Paso, or as I like to refer to them as “pinche pocho pendejos” that come over to Mexico to kidnap and extort because they know they can get away with it there.

Now you may have noticed that Little Beaner uses some words that aren’t usually heard on the Flintstones. For this I take full credit as much of his time working with me was spent honing his English skills 
So you may be wondering how they opened his locked door? Apparently it was very easy, they had a long metal pipe welded to a sharpened triangular tip. The guy just trust it into the door jam and popped the door open like a sardine can. I’ll speculate that it might work on an low level armored car, unless they modify the mechanisms.

So in the end of this real life movie the Little Beaner married a very smart, super beautiful girl from MTY with an American passport and now they live safely in San Antonio TX with their two kids.
