View Full Version : Shifter lever wearing away the recoil cover a bit..

And that kinda covers it, really. After years of use (prior to me) you can see where the lever is wearing away the case on the recoil starter cover.. the shift lever feels a bit loose on the shaft, although the bolt itself is tight. Any idea if this is "normal" after just being so old and shifted so many times, or is something amiss here?

Snug up the 10mm bolt holding the shifter on,and bend the shifter back out so it doesn't hit the side cover.

Adjusting the clutch should take care of the slack in the lever .

Agreed. Adjust the clutch, replace plates if needed and make sure the lever isn't rubbing anything.

you say the bolt is tight on the shifter? Is the clamp area metal to metal too or
Do you still have space for it to clamp tight? If ends are touching you can file or
Hack saw to open it up a little, take the shifter off first. (Hope that makes sense.)

X2. And whatever you do, get it tightened up before you strip the splines off the shaft.
