Im not exactly new here, but havent been on for awhile. Ive had my X for about 6yrs now, and its just been sitting due to college and many OT hours adulting.

I finally got the engine out and the top end apart. Found alotta slop in the piston with wear marks on the piston skirting and cylinder walls. Which explains the excessive oil burning and exhaust smoke. Ive got a few questions about this build, with hopes that someone can help me out.

1) i plan to go with a Wiseco piston, 10.25:1. Ive been told the 12:1 is known for destroying transmissions (?). JSR Performance of Wichita, KS can do the bore job for $45. Fair?

2) the camshaft, chain, and guides look alright, except for a shallow groove worn into the front side (non-tensioner) guide. Is the guide still ok to use? What should be replaced? Also, the rockers has some visible wear, on camshaft ends, you can feel with your fingertips. Should these be replaced? And where to buy?

3) bent rear axle and rigged axle bearing carrier  I read awhile back about a 300ex swingarm swap, but cant find anything anymore. Can someone point me in the right direction? Or have any access to an axle and/or carrier?

4) cosmetics- i have a cut up atc110 front fender right now, and it looks terrible. No rear plastics. I also heard 300ex rear plastics will work with slight modification. Where can i find this info? And also, something about an old 250r front fender fits the 200x?

Thanks for any info you have! Glad to be back.

Didnt realize i have access to the Trikesylvania area. Mods, any chance you can move this thread there? Or should i copy, delete, and start new?

I'm not going to tell you what you NEED to replace. I am going to suggest that this is the time to do it. You'll never be able to work on the engine any easier than when it's on the bench. If you question your rockers at all, I'd either replace them or send them off to be hard welded. Web Cam can do this for you. There's probably other places that can as well. You should replace your valve seals while it's apart. Also maybe you valve guides. I'd hate to have you do all this work just to have it still smoke. I did this on the engine that's on my YTM 225 dx/r. I finally had the cylinder honed, put new rings in it and had the guides and seals replaced. This was after I put a Timberwolf cylinder on it.

Valve guides is something I didn't think about. Thanks for the thought! The shop that is doing the cylinder, is getting me a Wiseco piston, 65.5mm 10.25:1, Athena full engine gasket and seal set, and the boring job for about $220 before tax. They matched a Wiseco price i mentioned at $110.92.

I did ask about the rockers. He says the "World of Powersports" website has them for about $36 each. But for the same price can hard weld my old ones.

What about the cam? If the rockers are hard welded, do i need a special cam?
