85 ATC 200s. Rear pads have about half life left. Bought a new cable (rear hand brake) but the cable seems too long (double checked, its the correct cable). Any instructions out there on how to properly adjust? Problem with the rear brake up on the handle as well as foot. Does the rear piece that bolts next to the drum need to move down? Is it adjustable?? When i pull in the lever it only barely presses the pads. Cable is screwed in all the way on top and bottom

Does it still have this brake wear indicator?

On many bikes you can simply remove the arm on the drum and rotate it back 1 spline . This typically puts it within range of the adjustment on the levers, however, if the arm currently moves more than around 1" before it stops (engages the brakes), the shoes are excessively worn and should be replaced.

The arm is also designed to be "clocked" in a specific position so the leverage is optimal . Repositioning it from the original factory position should only be done on a temporary basis but the difficulty is determining exactly what the factory position was which I for one can't answer but maybe someone else can.

The shaft and arm have alignment dots .
Worn shoes or drum could be the problem or if it's an aftermarket cable it might be off some to .
