Just curious if anyone has an opinion...

The Lifan motors kits are about $459+shipping (ebay) and look like a bolt in solution.

Keep in mind that my trike is now a bike and the engine needs gaskets, cam guides, chain, carb rebuild, spark plug, coil, clutch pack, etc - pretty much everything. I think the top end - guides, valves and springs might be OK.

Seems like I can get a new motor for $554 or start rebuilding mine and end up at an unknown number - that might be close to the cost of the new Lifan.

Any thoughts?

I vote Lifan. A electric start manual clutch atc200 would be a fun bike. I wanna put one in a 200s one of these years.

Only obvious problem would be the kick start. No clue how it will work with the fenders. I've only seen them in a 200x. But as long as you get a good battery and a clean carb you shouldn't have a problem.

Plus since you will be running a battery you now have the option to upgrade your lighting system to LED's with little work. Hardest part will be building a battery box and finding a place for it.

Good luck with whatever you decide. As long as you don't care about it being all OEM, do it. I heard these motors last a long time and are pretty bulletproof also. But see what others have to say first.

I've read good things about them as well. One guy reported something over 50,000 miles in his Lifan powered motorcycle.

This would go in my 200M conversion to a 2-wheeler, so the kickstart "should" fit just fine. And I need a headlight anyway, so I was thinking LEDs too.

Might save the rebuilt Honda motor for the other frame or the next project.

Thanks for pointing out that the engines are manual clutch - I didn't pick up on that!

I vote for the Lifan if you're up to the wiring challenge.

Are you putting it in an X or a hard tail?

I put one in a 200X I bought with no engine. Ran great! Was a great trike. Only sold it after I bought a 350x and to 200X never got ridden again...

This thread is about putting one in a hard tail.

If you're patient, you might find a complete 200cc dirbike on CL for less than $500. I got mine for 200 with near 0 hours on it. It took a while thought...

I can tell you on my 200x that the engine rebuild is more than the lifan motor. $250 crank repair true and welded. Bore $60, crank bearings $40, weisco piston $100, top and bottom gasket sets $40, versah conceding rod kit $60-70. Misc internal bearings $30-40. I'm sure there is some stuff I forgot to mention. That price for the lifan is reasonable. That price is with the one that comes with the wiring harness, carb, etc.? Your choice!!! There are many here to help you on your way.
