Is there a difference in the 85 vs 86 clutch pull arms. I know the the 85 pulls back and forth and the 86 pulls across the engine. the ones I find for sale say 85 and others 86

The arm is "clocked" different between the two years. I filed the factory weld down on the 85 to get the lever off and then rewelded it in the 86 position. 239028239029
First picture is the 85 arm position, kind of hard to see. The 2nd picture is rewelded in the 86 position. I may have to change it slightly because I only had pictures to go by.

I just went through this problem on my 86 350x.

I couldn't get my clutch cable to adjust at all at with the cable adjusted all the way out. I found the clutch pin sitting farther in at rest with out any tension before it engaged the plunger. I racked my head around this tore another cover a part and tested the spring still the same thing. Turns out the clutch arms are different there set at different positions to engage the plunger. I wish I took pics but I just went through it this week.

Thanks guys. I got an 85 that was in pieces and just getting it back together. Based on the pictures it has an 86 arm. Just have to decide if I wanna turn the arm now or just tap the center case and run it like an 86.

There is another support bracket you'll need to mount on the stator cover (left side) as well.

Part #5 in this diagram (not available new anymore, just showing the picture):

I think imma just grind and rear weld it. I'm just afraid of stuff snagging the cable the 86 way.
