Picked up a parts '83 R

Picked up a a 250R for parts. I was told it was in a fire and a front end loader crushed it in the clean up. Definitely some usable parts on it. Unfortunately there is a hole punched in one side of the jug into the port and the crankcase was exposed to the elements. My main question is about the rear axle. There isn't a taper to it like on my '84. Was the 83 model different?
