I picked up an 83 for parts last week. The axle doesn't have any tapper to it. I haven't gotten my 84 out yet to compare. Are the axels/bearing carriers the same between the two years?

Yes axles and bearing carriers on 83-84 are the same. Some one told me the 84 oem axle was a little longer but for the most part the same.

If I'm not mistaken, that is an aftermarket axle
