Hey there,
This is some pictures of the 1986 (1985 model) Honda ATC 70 that I am currently restoring.
I ride this little thing A LOT when I was young (and after :naughty:), during 25 years, and it was stored during 5 years after a first attempt at restoration (new house, new kid, and suddently my free time disappeared ). It really needed some love :p
Note : this is my first restoration project, and I did not try to restore it to look like 'stock'. I just want it to be clean and well running.

The restoration is completed at 95% and I just wait patiently for it to stop raining to try the ATC outside :naughty:. At the end of this afternoon if i'm lucky

The photos are in chronological order and there is no pictures of the work on the motor, clutch and carburetor :

At last I finally ride it but not too much : it need a lot of work on the ignition/carb settings, I did wrong in the garage.

Finally ! It was not a carburation problem and not an ignition problem... just a cheap chinese air filter I put in place of the original air box because, well, I thought it was nicer
I adjusted the air flow using some good old duct tape until it works well with the default carburetor settings. I am good for a restoration of the original air box.

Looking good Henri. It appears that your front fender is quite close to your cylider head nuts, or is it just the picture angle? These things do have an issue with bent frames which is very easy to fix if it is.

Yes it seems that this is a problem of this kind. Do you have any tips on how to fix it ?

Ouch. The woodruff key has disappeared into dust.

I think I need a replacement crankshaft :(

I'd take a shot at welding it up first and carefully cutting a key way with a dremmel tool. What can you lose, it's already pooched.

I have another old engine but I would know the state of the crankshaft only when I would have disassembled it (There is not much oil in it, and I do not know since when).
Welding will be the last option, i'm not very good at it

The replacement seems to look good :p (from an old CT-70 motor) :

Finally got it running.
A lot of work since the CT70 crankshaft is different : the axle is shorter.
I had to use and modify the CT70 flywheel (Hitachi) for the pull start :

And I also had to swap the stator plates since the point support is wider, and I had to put a woodruff key with 10° advance.

UP and running now :

Glad you were able to get it going. I have a 1983 atc 70 that I am just getting started on. I really like the resto you did on your bike.

Finally switched to a Lifan 107CC motor and a pirhana exhaust:cool:
Was worth it ! More torque, more power, and CDI :-)

Looks like fun

Nice scenery too! I've been trying to talk my wife into a trip to Italy/southern France. She wants to go to Ireland instead
