Hi all

New here! I am rebuilding an 84 250r. I wanted to know if the gear shift shaft is the same diameter at the spline as an 85. I ask this because I would like to alter an 85 gear shift lever to fit an 84 with bit of welding.

You are asking if the splines are the same? If so then yes they are.

When you get it done post pics. I have bad splines on my 83-84 shifter.

So here is what i ended up doing. I purchased an 1982 atc250r shifter shaft on ebay. This will work and is exactly the same as the 83-84 except the shaft sticks out about and extra inch. I was not satisfied with that so i spent another few months waiting for an 84 and purchased it. Also yes the splines are the same across 81-86. I will post a picture of the splines against a tape measure later so peeps can have the resource in case they want to use a different shifter. :) Also just picked up an original 1984 +4 westcoast swingarm for it! Its mint to. Yea super rare. ill post a picture of that as well. Also i have the 81-82 still and will sell on ebay if anyone is interested message me and i will tell you when its on ebay.
