im getting a 85 250ES this week for $500. it has a head gasket gone but thats all he said. should i replace it? is it hard? also where do you guys buy bearings for the big reds? anything to look out for before buying.... he said i can ride it before i buy it so.

If by "gone" you mean that the head gasket's blown, replace it. If it's blown, I doubt you'll get much of a ride. Is it hard to replace? That depends on your mechanical abilities. Get yourself a service manual before you attempt the replacement. If it's not a total basket case, then it's worth the $500.

yes i have mechanical skills but just not with big reds.he said the engine dont smoke.

I would buy it. If the plastics and seat are intact, they are almost worth that. I have never done a head gasket change, but I wouldn't let that stop me.
