1987 Honda atc 250sx.

Hello, i just picked up a 1987 Honda atc 250sx and I has a different sound when it is in first gear low. It engages fine and shifts smooth but the super low gear sounds odd compared to other 250sx's or big reds. It has a bit of a whinny sound and it sounds like I can really hear the sound of the gears spinning if that makes any sense. Second gear makes a totally different sound. ( normal I'd say) . I know that's not much to go on but I am wondering if that low gear should sound different or mane low or wrong oil......any common issues with those transmissions?

Any thoughts would be great.
