I came across a local guy that has an '86 200x that is in "great" running condition (according to him). He said top end has been done, from the pics everything looks intact, but that the clutches need to be changed and he will throw them in. He is asking $650 for it. He says its an '87, sent me a pic of the frame stick and it says 87, but all the plastics and markings point to an 86. Thoughts? Comments?

650 for a runner is a good deal so long as it is only a worn clutch and not something else

I spoke to him again and this is what he said has been done:

top end
front forks (rebuilt)
rear damper (rebuilt)
new tires
carb cleaned
sent me a pic of the inside of tank (no rust)
brakes redone
shorty clutch lever and master

needs to have clutch pads changed (but will throw those in)

The frame is squared and has the sticker that says 87, has the red swing arm, but an 86 tank and plastics.

I made arrangements with him to go pick it up Saturday. I will be driving 3 hours to get it. Is there anything I should check while I'm there?

That does sound like a good deal. I just saw an 86 200X on eBay go for $1,250 with busted rear plastics and a seized motor.
