Hi!
I just found this forum while looking up how best to change a tire on my atc70.
I had a 1982 atc185 a few years back and loved it. I enjoyed the careless slow rides anywhere and started taking my kid with me.
Unfortunately it got stolen... along with my 1973 z50.
I just found a atc70. It runs but has no tank. My original plan was to just fix it and let the kids ride it but seeing how simple it is I got carried away.
My plan is to clean up the engine but not open it up now as it runs quite well and I have taken the rest apart. I'm sandblasting it all tonight and will por15 everything before top-coating it.
The bodywork was painted green a while ago and I saw a video of Permatex paint stripped being used on plastic pieces without damaging it so I will give that a try.
Looking forward to interacting here and asking/answering questions!
Cheers
David

Welcome to the madness. Nice little project to refresh and perfect learning experience for your child. Oh and just cause I have several, what year is your SOHC bike in the Avatar?

That’s a 1969. I rebuilt that about 6 years ago. It had been sitting in the in-laws’ basement since 1977 all in pieces.

Nice project you have there! I'm in the same boat with my atc70, cannot find a nice tank!

Just an update... I did find a tank. I paid big money as it was supposed to be good... it leaked like there was not tomorrow... I welded it a bunch and I will now lead the bottom where I welded. I don't want to use a liner.
I have also uploaded a bunch of pictures in my other thread in the ''new member'' section..
