I'm currently contemplating swapping my 81 250r motor into my 85 200x, since I don't have a motor for it and the frame on my 250r is shot. I know that the sprockets are on opposite sides. I guess my main questions are has anybody ever one this? and is it just as simple as taking the axel off and flipping it around in turn putting the sprocket on the right side of the machine to line up with the motor? any help or input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I've never tried it, but I'm guessing it's going to be a little more tricky than just an axle flip. I hope I'm wrong! At the very least you'll have to make a brake stay and possibly a caliper mount as well. Another big pain is going to be running the exhaust, and you likely won't be able to run an airbox anymore either. It's certainly feasible with extensive work, I'd suggest finding another frame personally, but anything is possible if you're capable.

Yeah I figured there would be mods I’ll have to do. I’d rather just fine a 200x motor even if it’s blown up. But I’m having troubles finding them in my area for a fair price.

Well your other option is a ATC185/200S engine. That's pretty much a direct bolt-in I think, but then you'll have an automatic clutch. They call that an "auto X". You might be able to find an engine on here if you poke around enough. You can post in the classifieds once you're able, and you could even write something like "In search of 200X engine" as your signature in your profile. That way people viewing on computers will see that every time you post. You might be able to find a frame for your R on here as well.

Alright I’ll try to poke around a bit. I’d like to keep the 200x engine is possible. Just wanting to try to restore it.but I was just having issues finding one. Thanks for the help.

You can swap the 200x front end on.with no problem. Perhaps a tank and plastic seat swap and call it a day. Moses then a few ppl have done somthing like this. Might save some time. However alot of 1at gen r and 200x stuff interchanged.

Could you try to use the R swingarm and axle on the X frame? Of course, I have an AutoX and I absolutely love it. I rarely miss the manual clutch.

How is that supposed to fix his bad frame?

Welds and metal....sand blast and paint or coat.

Putting an aircooled 250r motor in a 200x would require alot of fabrication. The swingarm pivot bolt goes threw the rear motor mount on the 250rs .The front of the motor goes threw the frame cradle. The only parts from a first gen that fit a 200x are frontend ,brake master ,front caliper and the rear axle from the 82 .maybe some small pieces.Your best bet would be getting a frame for the 250r and a 200x or auto engine for the 200x.just my 2 cents.

Yeah I think I’ll go the route of trying to find the 200x motor and possibly a new frame for the r. The axel on the r also has been broke and the guy I got it from tried to weld it and we all know how that turns out. But thanks for all the input.
