Hey guys. I juat recently got an 85 250es running. It had been sitting outside for a little over a year. It was running great untill a couple weeks ago it randomly died. I checked everything and it had no spark. I got a new ignition coil and a new plug but still no spark. Any help on how to fix this problem? Thanks

The most common electrical parts to go bad on that machine are the ignition switch and the CDI box .

I have had the solder joints on the ignition switch break on a few of these so I would check the joints when your checking the ignition switch.

Ignition switch you test with an ohm meter , the CDI can only be texted by using a known good one , no real good test for your old one .

Any one have a source for an aftermarket CDI box for an '85 big red? or any success adapting the two plug style off of an '86 to fit the one plug style of an '85?

My 1985 250ES Honda manual gives specs to test the CDI with a voltmeter.

There is a fusible link under the seat left side by Battery. Most common cause for no spark! Minimal cost

I'd be interested to hear what you found out, I bought two non running '85 big reds the other day and cant get spark from either. I took cdi and coil off a running trike and checked the fuse next to the battery. Look forward to gearing anything else. If I figure mine out ill update the thread

There is a fuse on the left side , looks like a wrench . Did you check that one ? By the left rear .

Heres a link to an old post . The link fuse is in a black box . I cut it out and wired in a new type fuse holder .

Yeah like a soild piece of metal? not like a typical glass fuse?

Correct. That should be your main fuse. Most replace it with a new 20 AMP fuse with cover. Pretty easy todo.

Still not getting any spark. Shifting my attention to my other big red and a 110 project for now.
