what are gelcoat fenders?

saw some fenders on ebay for liquid R that say they come with a gel coat and theyll need prep for paint. Not sure what that means?

They are fiberglass.

Like yaegerb said they're glass. Gel coat is the shiny finish that they spray into the mold before they lay, or spray the glass. You just need to sand and prime it if you want to paint over it, but if there are any deep scratches, or chips you're better off filling them with Bondo, or glaze than trying to sand them out. If you sand through the gel coat and into the glass things can get messy. You'll also want to wipe them with degreaser before you sand as there can be traces of wax from the mold on them and use a good quality sealing primer before you paint.
