Needed help

I have 84 185s with jetted carb and dg pipe but it keeps backfiring what do I do

1983 was the last year for the 185s btw .
If the head pipe isn’t leaking then you need to richen up the the jetting , if it’s back firing on deacceleration then the pilot jet needs to be bigger , stock is probably a 35 or 38 so a #40 should be a good start . Adjust the air fuel screw for the best highest idle .

Sorry I forget I have a 40 in it before I had a 35 but I couldn't not go wide open it wanted to die but now I have the 40 in it it runs a lot better but just back firer

Factory carburetor or aftermarket ?

Are you 100% sure the exhaust isn’t leaking at the head ?

Ya I started it and sprayed it with carb cleaner
