13 hp john deere sabre mower smokes aand quits ?

new to me, Cleaned the carb , started but smoked for a bit. went to mow and under load with the mower engaged after about 20 feet it smokes like a freight train and bog's down a quites unless I disengauge the pto for the mower .. seems like the governor is moving a lot at idle ? any idea's ?

Did you drain the old oil and add the correct amount and proper viscosity? If too much oil or gas leaked into crankcase it will smoke excessively

Check for a dirty crankcase breather.
