Hello all, making a post for a friend, does anyone know what could be wrong with a 86 big red 250 that pops out of gear when driving? The garage told him that it’s likely the bottlenecks, but they said they can’t find a source for them. What exactly is bottlenecks? Or is that a slang for something to do with internal shifting fork? Any input would be great.

part number for the shift forks looks to be the same as multiple year 80’s trx250 as well as the 80s, 90s all the way to year 2000 trx300, they don’t seem to be available new anymore so eBay might be the only option. Use partzilla or any similar site to get the part numbers and paste them to ebay. There’s a right, center, and left fork. out of curiosity I copied the first one to ebay and there was a full set on there.
If that’s what’s causing it at least. Someone else will be able to answer that aspect better than me

Does it pop out of gear in all the gears or just a certain gear ?
These machines are notorious for shift linkage issues .
Need more information on the exact issue .

I inquired more. He said the bike stalls in first going up a incline, also it pops out of second and third gear. Do you happen to have a link to the shift forks you mentioned? I’m currently away and have a poor internet connection.

edit: removed eBay link, due to link failure, just copy and paste 24211-HA0-010 into ebay search
