View Full Version : Looking for a flanged sleeve

Looking for weldable steel flanged sleeves:

Flanged on one end

I.D.: 1 inch

Sleeve wall thickness: 1/8 +/-

Sleeve length: 1 1/2 - 2 inches

Flange diameter: 2 inches +/-

So far all I can find are flanged bushings or flanged bearings made out of stainless, bronze, oilite, etc.

I could probably buy seamless steel tubing and raw steel washer and weld them up myself but purchasing premade ones would be much easier ;)

Sure do, I have a small Atlas lathe. Problem is I need a minimum of 8 of these and up to 24. Purchasing a prefabricated item would be far less time consuming.

Last resort I'll buy some seamless steel tubing and raw steel washers and weld them up. I can weld the washer on for the flange while the bandsaw is cutting more tubing.

Gotcha, I thought you only needed one. That would be time consuming cutting the stock to length and machining.

Thanks for the suggestion sledcrazy, but they're too big and bulky. I'll try to post some sort of pic or diagram later.

I'll try to draw something up tomorrow.

Basically I'm trying to mimic Polaris's Lock and Ride quick mount system for thier powersports accessories, cargo boxes to be exact. Problem is I have an older Can-Am.

Most ATV cargo boxes come with a crappy U-bolt mounting system. I've heard good things about Polaris's quick mount set-up, but not so much on the Can-Am style.

The round holes you see in the plastic rack are for the cam lock mounting pieces. They look like this:

I'm going to make my own "holes" and weld them to my Can-Am rack so I can have a quick mount setup.

Have you checked McMaster Carr? I know they have a lot of odds and ends like that.

Edit....seems like all they have is bearings.

All of these dimensions are approximate, I haven't finalized my design yet. Just going off of the dimensions of easily obtainable materials. Everything needs to be weldable steel.

A and B: Not determined yet, I haven't gotten that far in the design process. Waiting for the cam lock fittings to get here.

C: Approx 1/8" +/-

D:Approx 1-1/4"
Hole will be drilled for a drop in fit, then the sleeve will be tack welded in 2 or 3 spots on the bottom of the rack around "D" and then on the top of the rack around "E"

E:Approx 2"

F:Approx 1"
The fittings I posted above will be a slip to light friction fit, operating the cam lever compresses the rubber portion of the cam lock part and tightens it up in the bore.

Here is a pic of the rear rack. I will either modify the existing oblong holes to fit the sleeves, or I will weld a piece of steel across the longer openings at the edge of the rack in four equally spaced locations and drill the holes for the sleeves there.
