Samjp22 and I went on an a very short elk hunt this week and unfortunately we're eating tag soup. We decided to try a new river where there's an open season (no draws) for elk 3 point or larger. The route was 23 kms bridge to bridge as the crow flies but turns into 35+ kms with the twists and turns added in. We planned to arrive on Wednesday, canoe on Thursday and Friday then go home Saturday; that was plan 'A'. We got under way at 5PM on Wednesday and bumped into a herd within 45 minutes but missed a shot on the 5 x 5 bull; man we were bummed! But that's canoe hunting when you're freehand shooting from a rocking boat. We camped 2 hours down river on a large island before dark which is when the rain started. It continued raining on and off from then on the whole next day with flurries mixed in and high winds that would spin the canoes around at times. We left the island at 8:00 and were quite discouraged about the weather with snow and high winds being called for on Friday. Knowing that, we decided to continue until the weather improved or we shot something. Neither happened so we paddled for 9 hours and pulled out early. Not how we wanted this to end but a nice river to canoe and we did get to see some critters after all. Sorry for some of the sideways pics?

Making memories with your son seem priceless. Very nice!
