Hi all, I just picked up a 1985 ATC 200X, it needs some work but the end goal is to swap in a CRF 230F motor. What are the parts needed from the 230 besides the engine and harness? What are the the common issues that will arise with this swap? Just trying to gather as much info as I can before get a 230.

Thanks

motor, carb exhaust or make one, reaar brakes. You need to buy a crf230 and those are not cheap so you already spend $1500 just to do the swap. You can redo the 200x + some better internals for that price.

I think that will be a good upgrade and the electric start will be nice to have.

I think it would be cool, I seen a guy make a flat tracker with a Yamaha trike and a tt230 dirtbike motor stuffed in it.

I assume "harness" includes CDI parts, regulator, etc.

Will need to work out something for a rear brake pedal and battery mount.

I put a Chinese 200 e-start engine in a 200X years ago.
I think a 230 engine would be great. I would have used one if they weren't so expensive.
I got lucky and scored the whole Chinese dirt bike with almost no hours under $200.

I put a 400EX battery box on the frame.
If I were to do it again, I'd use a modern Li-ion battery and a much smaller, probably custom made, battery box.

I cobbled together 350X brake pedal parts.

You can see the basic piece I scabbed on the frame to support the battery

These pics show how I combined 350X and 200X parts for a brake pedal.
As I vaguely recall, I drilled the new hole for the link in the 200X "rocker" because the lever ratio really sucked otherwise.

No. I never rode the 200Xs (I had 2) after I got the 1st 350X running. I sold both.

The white one had a Bassani pipe and 28MM carb on the Chinese engine. It would walk away from the stock red one.

If I rode anything but sand, I might have kept it. The 200X is a great machine but I'm a sand snob and sand wants power.

The white is a 2-stage poly paint I laid on in my back yard.
I used it on this 90/110 hybrid with fiberglass fenders.
