Honda 250R to small?

I'm 6'2" 250lbs. I am looking at getting a 250R. Is it going to be too small for me?

I don't think so, I know big guys that ride them. Redoing the rear suspension for your weight would be a good idea.

It’s all feel IMO...too small isn’t what you come off the R feeling. If you were able to ride the Big3 back to back. Your opinion might be more like compact but predictable, for the R. Your Tri-Z feel may seem overall roomy, it’s stability is more stretched out, making it feel bigger. The Kwai well if you can hang onto it you’ll figure out the rest with body English. I’m 6’2” at 220 if anything get real suspension under you no matter what. After an axle it’s next on the list before any motor mods in my book.

I am 6’3” 285 and I rip around on mine no problem. As aulbaugh said, get your suspension done or you won’t be comfortable.

I'm 6-4 and close to 300 - 85R - not too small. Springs are soft, though.

I have found a clean 86 350X for $3000.

An 82 250R recent wesco upper kit rebuild Brakes said to have been worked on and are said to be good. needs some hardware for aftermarket silencer and front wheel bearings are going out. looks decent in pics for age.

The recent find is a 06' TRX 450R LOOKS clean in pics.

I know the 350X has more useable lower end torque. how does it compare seating wise to the 250R for 6'2" 250lbs.

Riding dirt roads, feilds, and sandy loam river bottoms.

The Idea of drifting the 250R is appealing!

Having both 350x and 85 250r I much prefer the 250r it absolutely rips! I did the 450r swinger swap and used an elka shock with a hi-flite desert seat and love the ride, I'm 6'4" 240lbs and ride with a buddy the rides a quadzilla 500 and he can't keep up in the tight trails

I'm 6' with a 350X, it's big enough for easy riding.

I find myself riding my 350X more than my 250R. The 250 is faster or at least feels faster, but the 350X is easier to ride fast on the sand trails at Waynoka.
My 350X has a HiFlite desert seat (taller and better foam). slightly taller bars, and longer footpegs.
My 250 is almost completely stock.

Both have stock shocks with preload maxed and damping set "as needed".

Both have Progressive fork springs and slightly thicker oil.

Both could use a fatter spring on the shock.

I actually ride the Tecate more than either of them when it's running.

So, budget friendly suspension (assuming you provide the labor):
- change the fork oil including a full flush of all the gunk and crap I'm sure you'll find in there = $10 worth of fork oil if your seals are OK
- Progressive fork springs = $90
- Rear spring = $100

Sort of budget friendly:
- rear shock rebuild/revalve/respring by somebody with a clue $300-$500

Not budget friendly at all:
- new shock $1000+

Of the trikes you listed, I have no interest in an 82 250R other than to show off in camp. I've seen some really nice ones, but the 350X and later 250Rs are light years ahead suspension wise. Even the T3 is better.

The quad could be fun but I've never had one. Never ridden a Honda 450. I spent about 10 minutes on a Yamaha 450. The engine was amazing but I have no clue how to ride a quad fast.

What are the biggest differences between the 250R and the 350R riding styles?

What I think I know is.

The 350R has lots of low end torque giving good front end lifting pull off the line.

The 250R winds up fast for speed.

Which one is easier to fishtail a 180° from a slow roll or stand still?

Which one is better for drifting in turns at moderate speeds?

Is there much difference in rider position for taller riders?

I think you will be much happier on the 250r. Im 6'2" and my brothers 350x felt like it had a very cramped cockpit. The seat felt lower and the rear fenders sat pretty far forward. The 250r feels better in that department, has better suspension and lots of aftermarket options for parts.

In my book the 350x vs 250r is just preference, do you like the wild characteristics of a 2 stroke, or do you like the grunt down low torque of a 4 stroke. Besides that, both can be updated for suspension and such.

As far as size goes, I guess it really comes down to how flexible you are, and what your preferences are. I've rode an ATC70 a few times, yea the machine physically is tiny, but still a blast to ride, didn't hurt my back or anything. That little guy is a wheelie monster for being so small, 6'2 ~180lbs here.

I guess another way to put it, do you want a 3 wheeled dirt bike (atc250r), or a 3 wheeled sports quad (atc350x)?
