well ive been looking for another old pickup to add to my collection and i finally ended up finding me a 1964 c20 has a 327/ 3 on the tree. going to be a fun truck cant wait to start tinkering with it.

Just my 2cents, from teenage memories of having to raise the hood and jiggle shift linkage loose or driving around stuck in 3rd gear until out of traffic.

As much a I can appreciate the quirkiness of a column shift 3 speed, they're pretty worthless, especially with a powerful engine. A non synchronized first gear is terrible in traffic, more so with highway gearing. The floor shift conversions aren't any better, super sloppy.





7004R,4L80E or something even newer with more gears would be my choice. No point in even messing with a three speed, non lockup automatic anymore, unless you already have one sitting around. A five speed manual is a good choice too, in a truck that already has a clutch pedal. I've go a stack of 3 & 4 speed automatics in the shop, none of them worth much anymore, but my car and Chevy truck will get one of the four speeds, eventually.

If you want to add an automatic, even a 700R4 and keep it looking period correct(ish), GM used the column style with the external gear indicator on the top in full size vans until the 1980's. Otherwise its Ididit, Lokar, or something similar.

I learned to drive in an orange 62 C10. Never cared for the body style until recently. Maybe because there aren’t many of them being restored. I saw an orange C20 a few months back and it’s been stuck in my head. Those trucks were from an era long before trucks were acceptable as family vehicles and made of real metal. Enjoy :beer

I bought a 1963 with 235 and 3 on the tree right after I graduated high school. It was a beater! Paid $300 for it :lol:. I rebuilt the engine, put a 4 speed in it and put a stepside bed on it. Got to the point tho where I realized it was a money pit and I was trying to go to college so I cut my losses and unloaded it. That looks like a nice ride. Enjoy!

Sweet rides Thornton, all of them! I learned to drive and back a trailer with a '70's F100 300cid, 3 on the tree, no power steering or brakes and I appreciate the lessons that truck taught me. Pull up to valet and see what they do with the C20; my guess is panic!

I know where there's a blue and white 70 with exactly those options about 40 minutes out of Moose Jaw if you're looking for a project. I think they'd sell.

So cool bud! I learned in a’64 just like that.....up the river, sitting on a pillow w/ a cowboy hat. Brothers were just the drinking age, then..it was a necessity. Brought my brothers Mercury home and find out my dad wants to sell the 327 in his ‘66 Chevy p/u and part the rest. I’ve already got it -though, hehehe. He’ll find out.

im probally going to swap out the 3 on the tree and go with a 400turbo setup and possibly a 454 or i might have the 327 built a bit. i also want to lower it, disk brake conversion add a booster and power stearing and have it painted, and im going to relocate the gas tank from behind the tank, then it will be about ready
