How much are these really needed for the 85 & 86? They supposedly direct air to the head, correct?

No, they direct air into the frame’s backbone for the airbox. As far as how much they’re needed, unknown by me.

Ah hah, thanks for clarifying the function. I’m not sure where I read about it being for the head, but directing down the frame tube seems more likely. I’m assuming with the lid being drilled, it would pretty much eliminate the functional need for the inlets.

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas!!!The purpose of the tank deflectors on the air-cooled bikes (200X, 250R, & 350X) was to guide air over the head/cylinder. Maybe that’s what you’re remembering. Merry Christmas!

Thanks Rider, I put an ISO on the classifieds board. Unfortunately I had to rip mine off with vice grips because the screws were not being compliant, and I was in a time crunch to get the frame dropped off for powder coat before they shut down until the new year. Im actually on my way there now to pick it up.
