my son in law just bought a quad and my daughter and 2 grand kids have nothing to ride. Wife will not ride a 3 or 4 wheeler and wants to get something with 4 seats. I was being conservative and started talking something like a honda pioneer 5, Wife thinks a rzr just looks cool.
So anyone here got any experience on them? I dont need a turbo, it's mainly to ride in the desert, maybe up the huachucas. What to look for, looking for something not too old, we would rather spend a little more for low hours and mileage. jim

My biggest complaint with any of the UTVs is engine noise. Forget about talking to anyone while cruising along at sustained speed.

I haven't been in a Honda. I would be interested in knowing if the DCT (actual automatic transmission with gears) is quieter than the CVTs found in most UTVs.

The CVT types have the engine at a constant, higher RPM, instead of what I'd imagine a regular stepped, geared transmission will, which should rely more on engine torque in a higher gear when under a light load.

None of them have an enclosed engine bay like a Jeep would have, which is another reason UTVs are so loud to ride in.

Have you hear of Roxor? They're made by Mahindra and are in the price range of new UTVs. https://www.mahindraautomotivena.com/roxor261679

They're a huge hit and already have good aftermarket support. They seem much more practical for the money than a UTV and will fit on the same size trailer as a many of the four seat UTVs. The Roxor every bit looks to be built like a vintage Jeep enthusiast would built with a modern turbo diesel and other upgrades.

I have a RZR and an Arctic Cat Prowler. The prowler is more of a utility vehicle and the RZR is a full on off road machine. If you want to use it in the AZ desert don't get a "Utility" type. You will just beat the crap out of yourself in a utility and you wife wont like it . The suspension on the RZR is about as good as it gets and you can ride all day and not get beat up. The non turbo ones still have more power than most people can handle and are pretty darn fast.

Honda makes a 4 seater Talon now. I have heard horror stories about the RZR - but have never owned one, so it is all 3rd party info. I have a Pioneer 500 and the noise is not bad - no clutch / belt noise and a much better design. DCT is awesome and Honda has perfected it. My Africa Twin uses the same DCT technology and they are well tested.

I almost bught a blown RZR800 but decided not to. Im on the fencer about building a VW rail buggy for the money a sxs costs. It's a fad that will go away I think at some point. Once they start to cost so much I'd want it to be street legal...once street legal no one will care about offroad only buggys i have a feeling.

we're going to look at a 2018 rzr 900 friday, $13500, here its not hard to add a street legal kit, if we want. I just bought half ownership of a 18 foot trailer with the kids so now we need something to put on it. jim

Thats the issue, you need a car trailer just to haul the thing or two of them! only ever road in rail buggys which are fun if you have the area to run them.

Does the 2018 rzr900 have trailing arm suspension in the rear or "A" arm ?.

went and looked at the 2018, it's got the a arm rear suspension, aftermarket seats and harnesses, dust separator, full doors, full windshield, roof, 5 aftermarket wheels and tires, 2 inch lift. 750 miles.
just have to convince my wife it's a good deal around here, supposedly spent its miles around tucson. jim
no dunes.

We love our four seater, I have been driving them since they came out in 08. They have come leaps and bounds in power and suspension. My youngest falls asleep on just about every ride we take and it’s perfect, mine even came with GPS and a stereo!
