Hi all, my Tri-Z 250 seized up do to a center case air leak that was found, it did some damage to the lower part of the cylinder. I was going to get it bored out, is it okay to use it like this?

I wouldn't, just on the off chance that it breaks off and does a ton of damage to your crank. re sleeving is expensive but worth it compared to what you might spend with it breaking off. also a new sleeve will bring you back to stock piston size that will allow for a longer life span of the motor

I agree with Muthey^^^

Resleeve it or get a different cylinder.

The stock liners in those engines were made as cheaply as possible. You can get a new LA Sleeve liner, labor and a fresh 68mm bore and a piston to match for about $400. In the long run it's cheaper that buying a used cylinder off eBay.

Don't some of the big bore kits have that part of the cylinder removed ?.

Yea I talked to the guy that is going to bore it out, he said he will just smooth it and it should be fine.

Any thoughts about the cylinder head? It took a pretty good beating. Not sure if this can be sanded out, or it would take too much off being how deep some of the nicks are. Im having trouble finding a nice head that is in good shape.

That dome needs recut, not sanded.

Find a reputable shop who does two strokes on the regular and ask for a quote to recut the head.

Deep dents, dings, gouges in the head can cause detonation

Will the 85 YZ250 head work the same with a tri-z cylinder head gasket with no issues?

It will bolt to the cylinder and the gaskets are close, but the coolant spigots are in different spots, so no, the YZ doesn't work. Keep watching eBay, the Z heads come up regularly, you'll pay $50 to $100 for a nice one.

Oh ok I was wondering about that, yea I actually just bought a pretty nice Tri-Z head for $40 bucks earlier.
