Wrong dipstick?

I have 87 200x I just bought. When I got it the dipstick showed oil just above the bottom line. Bike runs great, but it does burn some oil as the head has some oily buildup around the header. I got some oil and slowly added oil and rechecked after about half a quart. Oil level never changed on stock. I stopped adding and fired the bike up and now I look like a steam engine going around the yard lol. Anyone heard of the dipstick being the wrong one for your engine?

Probably best to take a pic of the dip stick and probably measure the length of it and someone can validate if it's the right length or not.

Does it have good compression? Low compression + burning oil would suggest worn out rings. With low compression the engine can run on fairly well, but you loose a lot of power.

I'll try to get a photo and measurements up a little later. It starts on the first, maybe 2nd kick and feels like theres good compression through the kick start. Haven't actually put a gauge on it yet.

Edit: here is a photo of the dipstick. Double checked engine code and it is the 87 200x.

Thank you Shep. Now I'm really confused. I drained the oil today and I'd say there was about 3/4 of a quart in there. This is of course after I probably burned a few ounces riding it around the yard. Luckily there's no metal in the oil. Guess I will have to see how things go after I replace the rings.
