Newbie questions

So I picked up a 1984 Yamaha tri moto 200. It’s been sitting for a while I drained the oil and the old gas and bought a new oil filter fuel filter and spark plugs. Can anyone think of anything else I need to do before I try to get her running? Also should I run 10-40 oil? As for gas does it need to be a mix or just regular gas?

Just gas. It has a 4 stroke motor. You only need to mix oil into the fuel with a 2 stroke motor. 10-40 should be fine.

This is a dumb question too I know but I cannot find the battery since it’s a pull start it doesn’t need a battery?

I’d drain the bowl on the carb at minimum. It’s a good idea to clean the intake from carb thu boot and air box. Not knowing conditions it’s tuff to tell you how far to clean. Battery isn’t cheap but electric button start is plush and worth the investment. Check for spark? It should do without a battery.

Find your manual on the website, grab your favorite beverage, and read through.

It's always a good idea to check valve clearance on a new-to-you machine. Make sure the airbox is clean and check filter condition. At least clean any detritus out of the airbox if working on getting it running without a filter.

For priming the engine with fuel, I use a refillable, rechargeable spray can with gasoline. A little squirt into the intake and it'll fire right up if everything is copasetic.

These are simple machines and reading the entire manual isn't very time consuming, compared to modern automotive factory manuals that have a couple thousand pages and several separate volumes.

I'm a Honda guy and not super familiar with the tri moto but I believe they offered multiple models. Some had electric start, some didn't. If it has a pull starter then it doesn't need a battery. Batteries are typically located under the seat. If you don't have a starter button on the handlebar controls then it probably isn't an electric start model. If it doesn't have a starter, a battery or terminals where a battery would connect, that would also be a clue that its not an electric start model.

From my experience, the electric start models also had a pull starter.
