just picked this quad up for $150. motor spins over but guy said it wouldn't run. im going with a new ig first and see what happens.
But the big problem is it didn't come with the plastics, tank or seat.
Looking online, it seems the price of replacement parts, I could buy another used 90.
So what other options are there besides ebay? any generic plastics that sort of fits?
the quad is a 2007 model. figured its a honda so I probably can't get hurt at 150 bucks, worst case, get it fired off and part it out. jim

tinkered with it for awhile. no compression!
loosened the valves, checked the O on the timing chain even with the mark on the head and the flywheel is lined with T, so looks like the timing chain is okay and installed right. the exhaust pipe isn't coated with oil, i put my palm over the carb and don't get any suction, put my finger over the spark plug hole and no compression. I move my finger so a little air gets into the plig hole and I feel air moving in and out. almost like the intakes not opening. jim

put it on TDC, loosen the valve so its completely seated, poured some atf fluid into the port and the fluid disappears in less than a minute. So i guess its time for the head to come off. jim

what causes a intake valve to get bent? pulled the head and sure enough, valves slightly bent. ordered a new one off ebay. jim

Over reving the motor or worn out timing chain , it’s called floating a valve , pretty common on that model .
Definition of floating a valve , piston comes in contact with the valves .

Several things. Could have just been a bad valve. If the piston or chamber doesn't have valve or foreign object marks, it was probably just bad from new and eventually bent after enough cycles.

Check the seat to, make sure it isn't loose or otherwise looks off. Letting an air cooled engine overheat can cause the seats to turn loose, as in someone forgot and left it running. It happens, like someone goes to start something, to let it warm up, goes back inside for a second, then gets distracted by their significant other who's wanting some morning lovin.

seat looks good, piston and cylinder looks good. when it was together, put the flywheel at tdc the cam sprocket lined up on the mark. valve should be here by this weekend, going to lap it, bolt it together and see if it runs then decide what to do with it. jim

new valve showed up, dropped it in, hooked a jumper to my charger, fired right up. years of crap burned out of the pipe, and it runs clean, idles great, shut the battery chargernoff and stays running.
now to figure out what to do with it. probably throw it on craigslist and see if I can trade it for maybe a 3 wheeler project. or give it to my grandkid. jim

rigged a qt bottle for a gas tank and took it around the cul de sac. once I burnt all the gas/trans fluid mix and got clean gas in it, the smoke went away.
I found a 125m tank in the shed, looks like I can make a couple brackets to make it work. also had a 110? rear fender, just need to remove the rear bracket and fab a front mount.
made a seat pan out of a piece of pine to get a rough idea of size, might brace it up, cover it with foam and vynle. for front fenders, im going to look at some china plastics to modify.

okay, I must be totally out of the loop on prices of these things. bought a battery for it ,(got tired of jumping it) still have a bottle for a gas container
but did the math, have $220 in the quad and decided to just get my money back and make room. threw it on cl and offer up for 220 bucks and never got a call.
So am I asking too much for a running quad without plastics? I went out tonight and hit the switch, starts right up! I've been watching cars and cameras you tube video, guys messing with z50s, atc70s etc. and decided Iight as well just keep the thing. $220 really isn't that much money and it is kind of fun to zip around with this thing. jim

Can you make a Power Wheels Grave Digger body fit on it?

BOOM! Worth $2,000

no idea, but looking at the Chinese quad replacement plastics. 164 bucks delivered. Will need to make a few mods but cheaper than almost 1100 bucks for factory plastics, seat and tank. jim
