View Full Version : Storing ATC's upright

I've seen a lot of guys storing their ATC's upright to make more space in their garage, is there any special procedure you have to do to be able to store them like that? For eg. drain the oil, fuel tank etc?

I've done this before. I didn't have any oil drain out. The fuel will drain out of the carb unless you drain the bowl before you lift the front end up. Once, I had the front brake on my 250SX with a 200X front end get air in system from doing this. I loaded it in my truck and them drove 165 miles to a friend's house. By the time that I got there, the front brake worked again. I guess the vibrations from the truck going down the road worked the air back out. After that, I have never stored a trike with a hydraulic front brake with the front tire off of the ground. That was my experience.

Thank you for sharing, now I am wondering if it is a good idea or not, I need some space, but if it cause more problems than solutions then I will just have to make another plan.

Maybe the brake thing was just a freak occurance, but I don't take those chances anymore.

I have transported and stored them upright. I never had any issues besides oil leaking out the crankcase breather on a machine or two. I generally reroute the hose so that it doesn't drip oil if that it going to be an issue.

Thank you, my 250R will def leak out the crank case breather, but I will see if I can re-route the hose. Don't think my 250es or ATC70's will be an issue

Make sure you drain the gas tanks , ruined a seat cover on my 400ex doing this. Leaked out the vent hose. And of course let them sit for about 10 minutes before you fire them up (oil goes back to where it’s supposed to be)

Drain the tank, drain the carb, get a long tube for your crankcase vent and wrap it up in the handlebars so when you go to ride it again, just let the oil drain back into the case and put the regular tube back on.
