Hello all, I'm rebuilding a 1983 YTM200K. I bought this trike for the seat pan and the plastics for my YTM200ER. The engine was there but the head bolts were gone so I took it apart and everything looked fine. The head exhaust mounting holes were trashed so I found a 225DX junker with a good head and other good parts. I honed the cylinder and put a new set of rings and the 225 head on it and it runs great, clutch is good and has all 5 gears. I moved on to check and see if the lighting coil still worked, this is where I may have messed up. I took the 225 tail light and put it on the 200K not realizing it uses a different bulb. The light worked though was very bright, when I revved up the throttle it got really bright then quit. Could the wrong bulb have fried my lighting coil?

Thanks

Can you test the bulb and see if it got blown?

I would agree with 207. I think it would be more likely that the bulb blew out.

I put the tester on the lighting output wire and got 12 to 20 v , but on the AC setting, got nothing on the DC setting. Does this trike use an AC bulb ?

Thanks

Think I figured it out, I was told it is an AC bulb. I also read another thread here that you cannot run just the taillight or it will burnout, the current needs to be distributed to both bulbs. Is this right?

I believe that is correct. I know on my Hondas that's how it works.
Take care
