The 85 tecate I just bought I want to make it look good again. Is it worth the trouble to tear it all the way down to the frame and start back up. I was looking in the area of powder coating the frame, spring and just making it look good. I'm just wondering if its worth the time and money. I know its not an 86 or 87 which I think would be worth it. Make this one look good and I can tear up my 84 as much as I want.

Heres the 84 complete with mudders

TO me personally it wouldnt be really worth it as I -like- but dont -love- 84/85 T3's......whereas to others it would definently be worth becuase they love the machine and wouldnt trade it for the world.

You should make decisions on your own and forget what other people say. If you really like the bike, I say go ahead & do it!!!

Good luck,
Rob

Hey MustangChris,
In my opinion, tear it all the way down. Paint or repaint what you want. By reassembling your bike you can replace any worn or damaged parts. (grommets especially) You will also know that all bolts are installed, and using a threadlocker agent will help in bolts unscrewing and being lost. I just picked up another complete 86 Tecate 3. I disassembled bike down to frame. I found so many bolts that were not only missing but hand loose. It's your bike.....

that thing is an 84. 84 had drum front brake. how much money do you want to spend is the key.
