Hey
I may buy an XR200 1988...the seller says that when he tries to start it, the kickstart won't go down....what could be the cause of that? Is this a serious problem? How much will it cost me?

Thanks!

I'd say that's a serious problem. Can't really ride without starting it. Can it be push started? Does the motor turn over? If so, something's just out of line with the kicker gears. If not, you got a siezed motor and that's a real problem. Don't let the guy screw you--if he can't get it to run, tell him to piss off--OR buy it for parts CHEAP

your starter gears that are in the little case on the right hand side could be aligned incorrectly.

That would work if you could actually talk like you are from america!!!! You dont realize how hard it is at times to understand what people are saying when they type like an idiot....you have all the time in the word to type correctly and you still make mistakes!!! grrrrrr

Jeff

If it was seized, dont do it, they have those white metal jugs from what i believe and you CANNOT bore it out, the only thing you could do is get a new topend, which will cost you mucho moola $ $ $ $

but if it is just the kickstart gear, then you should be OK to get the (2??? i think so) gears for it to make the kickstart go down

Good luck

whatever you do, dont listen to idiot right up above me ^ , just ask him to explain in detail what its doing, also just do like all the other guys said, try push starting it, but if i were you, i would tear the cylinder and side case off and see whats up.
