Hey I was wondering if anywhere here has ever tried red banana's. I saw some in Wal-Mart tonight and never knew they had red one's. I thought they were old blacked up yellow ones until I took a closer look.

So post your thoughts if you guy's have ever eaten them or eat them regularly.

I think that they are plantains, a first cousin to bananas. They tend to be quite firm and less sweet than a yellow. Most of the time they are cooked, by slicing them and frying in butter or oil with some type of seasoning. Not bad, but not something I'd eat everyday. Ive had them in Jamaica and Mexico.

Yes those are plantains ... I've had them in the islands. They go good with fried ice cream.

its icecream with a dough around it. you can drop it in the deep fryer till the dough is cooked, and the ice cream will still be cold. its a mexican thing i think

Try an anti-biotic cream. It should clear that red banana right up.

:D it's bad when your banana is red,and the embarassment of asking the pharmacist for the antibiotic cream. maybe the wifey will rub it on,if she's not carefull she'll get some lotion of her own
and i'm not dipping it in any hot wax for no amount of ice cream, fried or not!
seriously tho, i have seen them in the local food stores, never tried them yet.

Red bananas are almost identical to yellow bananas, but when they're truly ripe, they have a creamier texture. They are ripe when patches of black start showing on the skin.

I don't know if it is still there but there used to be a place north of Ventura, CA that was a small banana plantation.
They had every kind of Banana you could imagine, green, yellow, red, brown, tiny, small, huge. I was pretty cool.
