no, but if your car has to be tested for the emissions then it will fail.

it will?? i swear that catylattic converter is useless, it is a concept that was later discarded after they realized it was useless right?

we were workin on a 95 s10 and the only place you could get one was from Gm and it was expensive. we just ran a striaght pipe thru where it should be.

I took mine off my 89 truck and put a piece of "test pipe" in its place. I went to Speedy muffler and got a quote of upwards of $600 to replace my cat. Hell, $15 for the test pipe, some of my old man's muffler clamps, about 25 minutes to cut the old one off, and put the new one on, and we're good to go.

I would get rid of my cat...unless it's a newer vehicle that has the O2 sensor in the cat....then you have to figure out other ways around that....

I would like to know to!

Warranty on emmisions stuff are 10 years 100,000 miles. So if your car qualifies take it to the dealer for free warranty work! :D

If it's carb. you could unplug it but you might have to unplug the ECM.
If it's EFI leave it connected. If you disconnect the engine could run rich and loose MPG. Because I believe if the ECM doesn't detect the O2 sensor it goes into open loop and make the engine run rich. Or it could run lean and burn a piston and it's reuild time!

You could run it without the cat but you'll have to drill a hole in the pipe and then weld a little nut or something for the O2 sensor to screw into.
If you do this unplug the battery so the computer well have to learn motor again and your engine light should hopefully not turn on.

You can go to S10forum.com and ask their.
