My unkel recently asked me to change the oil in his 86TRX200. After an hr. trying to get the oil plug back in I went to put it in the garage and it started smoking. Thinking it was smoking becouse I had tiped it on its side to put the oil plug back in I didnt worry about it. Yesterday when I went to take my 200s for a ride with a friend the bike was still smoking worce then my 185s that has bad rings  . Any one know what would cause this? BTW the oil hadent been changed in the poor thing in over 2 yr.

Bad rings? Possibly bad valve seals?

How did you check the oil on the dipstick? Screw it all the way in or just put it in until it touches the case? and.... How long was it tipped on it's side? If it was over for more than a few seconds oil will get into the head and around the valves, then when you start the bike up the oil will move into the exhaust and it will take a while for it all to burn out.

Im hopin I just over filled it a bit. Howmuch does it take? I put a qt. in it.

hondaATCman: The bike was on its side for about 20min while I fought with the drain plug trying to put it back. I check the oil by diping the stick unscrewed.

No, you're supposed to check the oil with the dipstick unscrewed, just dip it in until it touches the case, then pull it out. Was it on it side with or without any oil? If it was on its side for 20 minutes with oil in it, it got in the exhaust system and burn all out within a few days of running it. I might be wrong, but a 200 size engine should take more than a quart of oil. My 110 takes a quart exactly and my 400 big bear takes 3 exactly (a little more if I change the oil filter too)

On most oil filters, if you install them backwards, it will block the oil flow and everybody should know what no oil means. :D

If the bike was on its side for over 20mins the oil probably ran up to the head.

Being in the head won't hurt anything. The excess will just drain back down. It may have slipped past the rings and got up in the cylinder above the piston. Then as HondaATCman said it then got pushed into the exhaust when you cranked it over. No biggie just keep an eye on your oil level and make sure you aren't lossing more.
