boysen power reeds..... also pipe it if they sell prformance pipes for it... air box vents for more air into the engine...... plain the heads for higher compression.....a good tune up..... there are some good ideas for you man...

i had a old cat with the same motor, what really opened it up was a good port job and wiseco pistons (fresh bore), from that point,, you can do whatever you can afford, carbs, pipes, filter, plain, lighten, etc. etc ....

well hondawilly i say just do what i did to my 440 arctic cat put a peice of flex pipe on the header and clamp it on it gave my 440 a hell of a lot more spped and more torque and sounded awesome and pissed alot of people off i loved that old beast

i heard that can cause engine damage BS???? but my dad wouldnt like that. he got mad when i took the exaust off my threewheeler

were are the reeds i am not familar with them. they dont have them in denis kirk ,only for liquid cooled sled

dont do that to the exaust.... on a 2 stroke messing with the exaust like that will prolly make you looz power not gain any at all..... remember a 2 stroke is tuned by the pipe on it... thats why you can change the power curv by switching pipes..... doing something like a piece of flex pipe would almost def make you looz power...... 2 strokes are alot different then 4 strokes

also some of the older sleds didnt use reeds.... but im not sure about yours....yours being a 92 i would think would have reeds because i used to have an 85 yamaha 440 SS (super sport) and it had reeds (lol that was a pretty fast sled for its time) any way there should be an aftermarket set of reeds that you can buy for that sled.... weather your seld has 2 carbs or one there will be a "reed cage" between the carb and the cylinders of your engine ware the intake ataches to that has the reeds in it....being your sled is a twin you will have two reed cages and two sets of reeds to replace with an aftermarket set like boysen power reeds....

if i were you if you are really seriuos about this id,
pipe it
aftermarket reeds
clutch it (higher stall clutch)
plain the heads (higher compression)
dual carb intake (replace the "Y" intake for one that will let you use two carbs)

also like said before you should maybe rebuild it and you soemthing like wiseco pistons in it....being the engine is 12 almost 13 years old if it hasnt been rebuilt yet it is def time for it to be then... just rebuilding it if it hasnt been should wake it up alot.

Umm its a 440 fan, not sure bout urs but my cousins 380mxz is hard to find aftermarket parts for. There isnt even a pipe or silencer made for it since its a 380 fan cooled machine.

Try some new Boyesen power reeds as urs may be old and worn out, porting was something i recommended for my cousin, gut your airbox and find some larger jets to match, take apart your silencer, you may try removing any baffles in the exaust can to improve airflow, (cut it straight down the middle and remove the sections that obstruct airflow and weld it back together) sure it'll be loud but if done right not that loud, wiseco pistons, clutch it for top speed performance, and then find any useless items on your sled that can be removed to shed a pound or two. Example would be clamp on filters for your carbs instead of the big airbox, just tell K&N your intake size on the carb and they will hook you up.

You can get a clamp-on K&N with a Water resistant Outerwear to keep the filter from clogging up with snow. The reeds you should be able to buy from Boyesen.

thats is realy wierd if it doesnt... i know its posible but i used to have a fan cooled 1985 yamaha 440 ss.... if that is an 85 and it has reeds i would think his 92 would.... but it could be it doesnt because alot of the older sleds didnt use reeds ibut being its a 92 i think it does have reeds.... thats my guess....

lol i still remember my old 440 ss (super sport) it did wheelies when i was done with it... it surprised alot of people on newer 440s and even bigger sleds like 500s it wasnt anythign against like a 600 but it was pretty fast for a 440 i schooled many newer liquid cooled 440s back in the day with it lol when iwas done with it.... :Bounce lol about 3 years back when i still had it

so you have a 90 artic cat jag motor in your 92?

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/MMYSkuDisplay.jsp;jsessionid=NTXDIIBISGAQRLA0WTISM 4VMDK0NCIV0?leafCatId=31105&catId=311&store=Main&mmyId=1588

Denniskirk lists your reeds for 28.99 for a 1990 artic cat jag 440

no not yet i am in the proses of changing them there is no differnc they are the same exact and it has less miles last winter before i broke it it only did 72mph it should have did 80mph mabey cause it had so many miles and i looked at the clutch and something i worn out or broken.

No prob. Between the carb and the engine sounds right in my book.
