I'm headed to the all Ford Super Swap in Columbus, Ohio this weekend to waste money on my other addiction, the 5.0. I've been racing these cars for 13 years now and still love it. This swap meet is proclaimed as the " largest all-ford swap meet in the USA " and I believe it. You see people from all over the country there.

Anyhow, I was just wondering how many other board members are into 5.0's?

Pretty much the same attraction as Trikes, BIG bang for the buck.

I've got a bunch of 5.0's including a pretty health 92 GT. I've been to the Mobil 1 Ford Challenge a bunch of times, it's like a half hour drive for me. I'm not going to be driving to Ohio, I guess it wouldn't be just too bad though. My transmission is from a Dodge Viper and in 6th gear my drive shaft spins twice as fast as the motor. .050 ratio.

1989 LX 2 door coupe. wife is original owner. Mabey gets 500 miles per year or less, since the kids came (1999) since then its been sitting in the barn with a cover on it. It is 100% stock. I have been thinking of messing with it, but how many bone stock 5.0's are still out there? Im betting not many. In college I drove an 83 GT, red leather with a five speed. I really loved that car.

my 1987 lx 5.0 notchback coupe sedan , it is all stock , mine would be a racers dream because it so light in weight because it is basic bare minimum mustang , meaning it came from the factory with no power locks ,no power seats ,no power windows ,no ac,making it very light ,in stock form the back wheels just spin .

Do you have a crush on me or something trike kiddie? Dude, get off my jock. If you do not have a mustang or have nothing to say about them, then why are you even on this thread? Do not read my posts if you have such a problem with them. You are wasting everyone's time (including your own) with your childish whining.

who makes the kit for a dodge tranny in a ford?

Derrick Adams

Pretty sure D&D offers that kit. Little on the pricey side but I bet it's bulletproof. I seriously considered one of those myself, but they don't offer an SFI approved bell housing for it. So, I went with a slushbox.

I got a 88 Gt that i gave $1200 for got a pretty stout 306 in it. It sonic blue, has 10 holes on it. Looking for some Ponys or Cobra Rs to put on it. My dad has a 76 Cobra II that we are working on restoring.

Does anybody have a idea why my 88 is so cold blooded? Its got a K&n clamped on the mass air meter that what my dad thinks is what makes it not want to idle or run until you warm it up for about 5-10 minutes. Any ideas?

My 88 Gt, it needs a front and rear bumper cover, and a spoiler, Tires too

Well, the 88 doesnt have mass air so you dont have that to worry about. Your coolant temp sensor not sending the right reading. Check your throttle postion sensor also. Its GOT to be a sensor of some sort. I have had a 89 GT Conv, 90 GT, 90 LX V8, and 96 GT. I never had that problem on any of mine. Nor any of my buddies GTs or Cobras. One was even a 383 stroker motor. Any other symptoms? Whats your MPG like and Rear Gear Ratio? This will tell me a lot. :beer

The car has a 93 motor, been converted over to mass air. Not sure on the MPg, ive drove 102 miles and its down to alittle less then 1/2 a tank. Its got 3.55s in the rear im pretty sure. Hits about 2k runing 75 down the highway.

A couple of things. If it has mass air, does it have the metal screen in it the unit where the air flows threw. Second is the little piece thats inside there covered with oil from your K&N filter? Sometimes oil from the filter gets on the inside parts of the mass air and causes it to give a wrong reading> making the car run like crap. I would check the that out and the coolant temp. sensor that threads into the intake. It may have gone south. I have seen a bad mass air make a 5.0 and a 4.6 run like a dog. One wouldnt hardly run. Check and see if the intake boot from the mass air is oily, if it is, the mass air sensor is prob clogged up with oil also. That may be the problem.

Honda300ex
11-25-2004, 10:52 PM
Yea it has that metal screen in there, I cleaned the filter and put oil on it, might have some in there not sure though. It runs really good when its warmed up though, wont catch any traction in 1st-3rd and barks them in 4th if your really getting on it. About how much is a coolent temp sensor?

ClayW

If I remember right they are about $20 at Auto Zone. If the mass air is dirty, its ready will mask how much air is actually traveling thru the meter. You may have X going thru it, but it may think that less is going thru, so it the computer trys to compensate for the readings throwing the whole engine off. Have you tried reseting the computer. Clearing its memory? Unplug the battery for 30 min or so then hook it back up.

Honda300ex

Ill have to try resetting the battery tommarow, dont have a radio so i dont have to worry about loosing channels.. lol. How do you clean the mass air meter? James..

ClayW

You need to get the right stuff. I believe its called contact cleaner. The other stuff will eat the plastic, and leave a resedue on it. If im not mistaken, you can pull one of the main (big) fuses under the hood and not loose your stations ( if you had a radio) . You take the fuse out, and then hit the starter a few times, turning the motor over. This clears the computer also. Dont remember which fuse though.

You got it! It's a bad *** tranny, that's for sure. They offer a steel bellhousing for it.

I put in my new motor mounts today, Hooker long tubes really ****, they are all in the way. Rust kept falling off of them, I also noticed my rear tranny seal is leakinbg really bad too. Then i noticed that my shifter has a blue adronized base. I dont know what kind of shifter it is, any ideas?

problems running out of fuel.I belive if it is not fast enough to scare the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro out of you,no reason to own it.Glad to see other ford junkies on the board.any chevy guys out there wanna race next spring? lol

a blue shifter base would be a BnM ripper, good shifter,i have the pro ripper which aligns 2nd-3rd shifts automaticly,it rips

Yea it does seem good for 2nd to 3rd. I like it, alittle short though but im used to old granny truck trannys. One thing ive noticed is most of us have a 250r and a Mustang, must like going fast.. ... James.

I love things that scare me,first time i drove the car with the blower i layed into the throttle and the boost started to build ,next thing i know the car is breaking the wheels lose at 35 mph!It was insane, ripped both motor mounts in half and spun the stock harmonic balancer,i love hp

Honda300ex
11-28-2004, 02:14 AM
Heck i just got a pretty much stock 302 (bored .30 over, misd dist, hooker long tubes (witch really ****), comp 288 (i think) cam, Cold air intake, and accel plug wires). Both motor mounts where broke some how. I can punch it runing about 25-30 and lite the back tires up easy, but they are just BFg euro t/as that are almost bald for some reason. What kind of blower do you have on your car?

3leggeddog
11-28-2004, 02:21 AM
its a roots style holley174,thing makes 10#'s of boost. If it were on street tires I would not consider it as much of a task, but the car has 27inch Hoosier slicks on it,and they are pretty sticky,it is by no means the fastest 5.0,but it will hold it's own.I think were gonna ditch the blower in favor of a 408 stroker. It will be easier to tuneand faster at the same time, might have alot of parts up for sale if my buddy falls through on the cash

Honda300ex
11-28-2004, 02:24 AM
Thats cool, slicks do hook up better then radials thats for sure, I was thinking about a Vortex, or Paxton some time but ive heard some bad things and some good. All just comes down to money.

yeah a guy once said it was all about cubic dollars, thats were i'm in trouble this year.
a freind of mine has run a novi 2000 ,paxton, for a few years now with no troubles.my car has a carb so that limits my supercharger options alot, plus they are hard to tune, throw belts, and take special stuff, good luck with the car and if you need help with anything post it up,we may have front and rear bumpers at the shop i can check if your wanting to buy or trade .

If you have the front and rear bumper cover, email me if you would. I was thinking about buying a 50resto.com cobra front bumper for $200.. Its wierd how aftermarket front bumpers are cheaper than rears.

Looks good Basket, Ive noticed alot of people run C4s instead of the stock AOD trannys, what all did you do inside the tranny?

OldSchoolin86
12-05-2004, 08:57 PM
For the steet I used an AOD. The motor was making about 325hp and all I did to the AOD was install a full B&M rebuild kit with a strip shift kit. Held up really nice.

200x Basket

the tranny has a trans brake, billet servo, hardened input shaft welded to the front drum, 6 pack clutch, SFI bell housing, all race seals.

the AOD is ok for a street cruiser but much more expensive to build for race car.
