My buddy is going to get a honda 400 EX, and he can get pretty cockey, so what is out there that will spank him in top end, drags, and woods??, i was thinking of a Shee, so something like that would be nice, i also heard a 250R would take it, i would perfer the 4 wheeled version though.

LOL, banshee HAHAHAHHAHA 250R "might take it" hahahha jk man, stock to stock a 250R will walk on a banshee stock to stock the 400ex will be smoked throw a pipe and jets on a banshee and u better do the same for the 250R to win the 400ex has to have a crap load of mods to keep up with either bike, lets just say this k a 400ex will lose to a 82-84 ATC250R

why would you rather stick to a quad?!?! you have to show these people that a 20 year old machine can smoke a 2004-5 machine.. newer machines are all electric... take a trike, and it is all motor.. save the hassle and shave a few pounds and buy a trike..

The Banshee will win the drag race but the EX will win in the woods. A TRX 250R would be a better choice, still will win the drag but it would come down to the rider in the woods due to the equally great suspension. Buy a 350X or a Tecate and have some fun with him

A blaster will stomp a 400ex in the woods, hehe if i'm riding the blaster. Too many factors come into play when drag racing, conditions, ground surface, tires, gearing.Stock for stock the 400ex is faster than the blaster.
I'm at the point where I dont care what machine(s) I race against. I look more at rider skills.I've had my blaster in places where you would think it wasnt humanly possible to get an atv.Its very difficult to even walk in some of the places I ride.To me thats more important than who's machine is faster.Just my 2 cents
Go ride and have fun, make friends and dont piss off the neighbors...unless they did something to you first :)

i beleive that a stock 250r or a stock banshee will spank a 400ex.
there is no way that a blaster or 300ex even modded will beat a stock 400ex up front. a tecate or tri-z may do it. a 350x may.but it would be hard. i know of a person that beat a 400ex with a 650 prairie though. :welcome: :( :w00t:

Bring your favorite blaster to TF05 and we'll go hit the hair scramble together. Sounds like you and I do very well with our tools, mine just happens to be a 400ex.

After I seen Jim whoop a banshee's ass on the drag strip at TF04 I quit saying bad things about blasters ;)

myself, I'd take a 350x in the trails and with a good rider it would be hard to catch. I was hanging with a 400ex, raptor, z400 in local trails on my 200x. my friend with a ds650 was long gone history, but in the fields I was dead, the raptor and z400 had me real good, the 400x was fairly close.

I think a new Blaster is a great toy, stock it just doesnt hit the top speeds of most new quads but it does damn good for itself in acceleration. Throw in some mods like a bigbore and porting and you have a giant killer thats ready for action. [sarcasm] I'd love to have one for tight woods riding but I only have my Tecate.[sarcasm]

I hear a few people in this thread and lots of other saying how their 200X and 350X keeps up to most anything in the woods and I totally agree, smooth fourstroke power with tons of suspension makes for a great woods bike and the size of them make tight trails less frustrating then if you were riding something with an extra wheel.

id say let him pay 5 k and you spend 500 on a 200x and do doughnuts around him in the woods....i dust my friends banshee every time we ride...but that tight section is only about 1 mile...on a 5 mile course...soo it depends on where you ride...if you ride woods and are on a tight budget get a trike...just about any sport model will do...but if u want a quad to whoop him in drags and keep close in tight terrain...get a blaster or lt250r...they are cheap and plentiful, but still will run w/ the newer bikes

400EX is not a bad truck.lol Stock to stock I dont think anything is as fast as a She. Ex would be close with a stock R . My R eats them up but they are nice bikes if you can get a good deal and can live without the 450.

A blaster with a 240 big bore, pipe, port and polish, and a bigger carb will take an ex. A blaster weighs 320lbs, (same as a tri-z). I rode a guys 240 blaster from the area, and to say the least I was impressed. the blaster was done by Trenga,(which is about 25 miles away from me). Ive also talked to the owner Eric Trenga on the phone,(who owned a tri-z at the time), and he said that on blasters the way they come from the factory that there is so much power waiting to be opened up in the blaster's cylinder it's not funny, like something to do with exhaust port timing and what not, plus now he offers a timing selection plate for the blaster to change your timing . I worked with a guy once who rode a 240 blaster, and he said that when he pegged it in third gear, it opened his eyes up,(and he weighed about 2500

+2500 lbs eh,that blaster must run on diesel to haul his fat rearend.:0 joking
250 lbs is still alot for a blaster to handle, not for the motor, but for the suspension. By next year I hope to have a 240kit for my flat track blaster w/ a 36mm carb and a few other goodies. With my current blaster(200cc stock bore w/ a few good bolt on mods), I can run with the yfz's,250r's and 400's but really dont have the HP to pass them. With a 240 kit and the right gearing I should be able to leave most of them behind. Blasters get less respect than Rodney Dangerfield.
,,,Hey HondaATC, Could you imagine what I would,ve done on the dragstrip with a 240 Blaster? lol,i'm getting excited just thinking about it.

Yeah people always dis blasters, I love them, they have one of the best powerbands in my opinion, and they are so light you can man-handle them pretty easily.

Oops! I meant 250! lol!

would a blaster be too small for a 5'7" 154lb 16 year old.

The blaster is a great quad. I have nothing for a banshee; can't stand having to repeatedly stop ridding so that my fellow rider's p.o.s's can cool off after overheating. Yes, they accelerate faster and have a higher top speed, but the suspension sucks, cooling sucks, and handeling sucks. A modded 250r will take me, a heavily modded 350x will too. Theres no chance for a stock or even close to stock 350x, but my quad isn't stock either. By the way, the ex is for sale. I know this isn't the best forum to advertise in, but ohh well.

what about for when i get a bit older...is the blaster going to have to go or will it still be able to accomodate me. i know what ya mean Jim, the 240 kit from trenga looks pretty darn awesome...even there 200 ultimate 30hp kit looks sick.

I'm 28 yrs old, 5'10' and 195lbs.I do feel cramped up on the blaster at times,But nothing beats it for being small and easy to throw around. Yeah, the 30HP kit is nice to but I want to mod mine to max right off the bat if I'm gonna spend that much money. here's a vid of a blaster beating a 400ex.

I'll be happy to give the credit the blaster deserves but that 400ex don't sound right. Sounds like maybe it's geared to high or something because I know mine blast through the gears a lot faster then that and I'm 275lbs.
