Well today i was all excited to go in my first poker derby.
My sled is screwed right now because the weight in the clutch snapped, I was going to have it fixed by today, but I ordered a part from Winnipeg (which is 4 hours away) and i had my grandma pick it up, it ended up they didnt have the part and they sent me something totally differant with the same part # except the last two numbers were switched around. So i couldnt take that sled.
My uncle had let me borrow one of his sledd last year but near the end of the year the clutch went on it too, he hadnt got it fixed yet.
So today he had let me borrow his 580 Patera, So i was on my way to the derby and all of a sudden, POP!!. It shut off, there is a hole in the piston now.
i am pissed right off

Dude that sucks I feel for ya, the last snow storm I had fouled all of my spare plugs, I had too spend $11 on a cab ride, just too buy $5 worth of plugs. Snow storm riding is my absolute favorite, I was not sitting at home looking out the window at my non running trike.
I'd rather ride a trike over sled anyday anyway :p :TrikesOwn
:beer <~~~for you, you earned it :p
I received another valuable education lesson on old sleds this year too!! I have always ridden and owned old sleds over the years, Bolens, Elans, Chap's, ElTigres, TNT's, SRX's, Trailfires, Citations and they all have had there ups and downs, but sleds built in the early 80's have to be the worst engineered pieces of metal to ever be created!! I bought two early 80's Ski-doos this December with hopes of maybe ridding them a bit with the kids or perhaps making a buck on them. They were very low mileage sleds, not beat up, but they had been sitting for quite some time. Long story short, did you know that you have to completely remove a Citation SS motor from the chassis to even inspect the points!! After this is removed, you then have to use pullers to remove the fan drive, flywheel, guards and a host of other junk pieces that are in your way!! Also, on the type 377 Ski-Doo motor of this vintage the Austrians at Rotax used a very "cheap" crank bearing and seal that had a tendancy to suck air at certain RPM'S and not others, making a diagnosis on an engine problem nearly impossible to locate!! Again, SkiDoo thought that it would be a great idea to build a sled without any front bumper or grab rail on the early Safari model!! Again, it is impossible to change "slides" on an SS without completely removing the subframe and suspension system!! Oh yes, again on the Safari, engineers used a "common" wiring harness on this sled complete with tons of wires, plugs and other connections that just "lay" around in the engine compartment and confuse the hell out of any one looking for an electrical problem in the lights!! I could go on and on, dont get me wrong, I still love looking, collecting and admiring old sleds, but I will never attempt to buy one to ride again, period. An 85 or even 83 ATC250R was vastly better engineered than any 80's snowmobile. I should know I keep getting taught the same lesson every damn year. Thanks.

IT NEVER ENDS!!!!!!
My parts for the clutch on my sled were supposed to be in today, but they came up discontinued!!!! I dont think i was meant to be a snowmobile owner.
I am ordering the part from a salvage yard in alberta now, I am faxing them a picture of it and the schematic with the part i need circled and labeled. I'd say it is completly foolproof.

I'm not having good luck with my sleds either. It seems my snopro is the only one that wants to run. My 600, I got bad gas that was mostly water in it, so that froze up so bad that I have it in the garage now, I have to pull the seat/tank(one piece) off and tear the carbs apart and drain all the gas, then put them back together and re-syncrinize all 3. Gee what fun! And then on my BRAND NEW F7, I think the oil injector is out of wack because all it is doing is following the hell out of plugs. I'm lucky if I can get 2 miles on a set of plugs, and it loads up something awfull in the trails. Its rather dissapointing, but a part of the sport I guess.
