Hey everyone, first post out of trikesylvania...

I am looking to buy a quad. I went to the honda dealership and almost bought a '05 250 ex for 3900 bucks.

My academic advisor wants to sell his 1994 suzuki 250 r (quad runner?) to me for 1500 bucks. It has just had an engine rebuild (due to his son riding and the oil drain screw came out, you know what follows) and has about 2 hours on it. It needs brake pads, but he has them and will include them in there. Otherwise, everything is there, comes with a set of racks (uninstalled), tires are good, kicks right over, fenders in good condition (just need to be cleaned), so on an so forth.

Anyone have a picture of this atv? I looked around but i know 0 about quads, let alone suzuki quads that are 11 years old.

Basically what i am asking is that....is 1500 a good price for a 11 year old atv?
He is a good guy and he is my academic advisor, and us having a good relationship will mean excellent job when i get out of college. So what do you guys think?

When i go look at the bike, ill probably bring cash with me and buy it, so all of your information will be extremely helpful.

Thanks,
Mike

i dont know about 1500 for an 11 yr old atv that had a siezed motor at one time...i sure wouldnt buy for 1500, maybe 1100 tops if it is nice...nothing against the guy or anything its just that i wouldnt trust the motor 100% and something could go wrong at any time, costing the owner big bucks...if you really want it have him give you a 30 day gaurantee or something....idk, i just wouldnt trust a recently seized 4 stroke...thats just me, plus you dont know exactly what you have for a motor...

it would still run well once it warmed up he said, but all that was done was a overbore and new piston/rings/ect

He had it professionally rebuilt

Still worth 1100 now?

Thanks for you help btw

I thought that the 250 R is a "quad racer" ...which is a 2 stroke. maybe I am still stuck in the 80s, but I know that the 87-88 "250 r" quadracer was a 2 stroke.

I wouldn't go above 1100 for the suzuki- and it would have to be damn near mint. I bought my 2003 yammie beartracker (see my sig) for $1700. Only 50 hours, and all it needed was rear break pads- (all hours were from a lady riding it and keeping her foot resting on the rear brake pedal).

In FL you can get that honda you taked about for about 3850 OUT THE DOOR. Is your 3900 price a TOTAL? make sure that the dealer doesn't hammer you with a dealer fee (or fees $$$$$) and account for tax.

Good luck

yeah 3900 out the door

its not a 2 stroke...its a 4, i dont know if its a quadracer or not. I gotta look at the thing. Maybe ill offer him 1250 and see what he says.

Thanks guys, and any more input, let me know.

Up in central NY it seems like any working quad will bring $1000. I would say $1500 sounds ok, I would probably offer $1200 cash. Just check it over and make sure it runs alright. Look for things that would show it has been fixed properly, a good mechanic wouldn't use a ton of gasket maker, and would clean up the engine some, stuff like that.

Check ebay and see what the going price is. $1500 for a clean quad racer sounds good. You do realize you are looking at a new beginner machine with shaft drive and a used 2-stroke racer right? I would advice that you take some more time and research a bunch of quads so you can make the best purchase you can for yourself.

the 230 was the 2 stroke quadracer, the 250 is the 4 stroke quadrunner

The Suzuki LT250R QuadRacer is a 2 stroke. The 230 QuadSport is a sporty looking little 4-stroke. All the QuadRunner's and QuadSport's were 4 strokes. Only the QuadRacer's (LT250R and 500R (QuadZilla)) are 2 strokes.

the 230 was the 2 stroke quadracer, the 250 is the 4 stroke quadrunnerThey never made a 230 2-stroke quad and the quadracer was a 250 2-stroke.

if it starts and runs to suit you and your happy paying $1100 then yes it is a good deal for you. I paid more than that for 350X i am having to do work to to even ride the thing.

Sorry to start the debate on the 2 stroke/4 stroke, what model was it..blah blah .

I was just unclear as to what the bike really IS?

A running 4 quad will fetch 1100 just about anywhere, but is is WHAT YOU WANT- that is the question. If it runs tight and is a solid bike, and you want it, then I'd go 1200 no problem. You're goona pay 3 times that for a new 250 anything. Guess you just gotta decide what you want, and what you wanna spend.

Good luck
