Here is my car stereo I got for $15 at Wal-Mart. I have it hooked up so it is playing sound off my computer. When it finally warms up outside I'll hook it all up to my car.
Hehe, I bet it plays kickin sound on the computer dosn't it?

Those look more like woofers then subwoofers, but if they sound good to YOU then thats what counts.

These guys have helped me out many of times.

I got me one of them too. Got it for Xmas 2 years ago. I spliced it into my stock rear speakers in my van and it sounded like trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro. Although the van is 14 years old and at the time it still had the stock stereo...so that might have been the culprit. I have a new in-dash CD player now that puts out 52x4 watts so I'll have to hook it back up and see what she sounds like

Now who came up with the name Horn Tweeter?

I recently had a system installed in my gmc. 3000 watts, ppi amps, jl audio 10w6 subs and 4 mb quart Q series 6 1/2" with comp crossovers. This thing is so loud and crystal clear it rattles stuff off the shelves in the house. :w00t: The best thing about it is none of it is visible and its running off the stock cd player.

I'm waiting to buy a touch screen dvd player, I've got to save up a little for that. At first I was after great sound with stock apperance, because of thieves, but I've upgraded the security so I'm not to worried about apperance now. I've got a nice deck I could install but its not what I want so I'm going to leave it until I can spend the money on the dvd. I will probably list this deck on ebay and use that money for the new deck.

Look at the Alpine IVA-D300. It's an awsome deck. Retails through our shop for $1400. That's a killer price for all you get.

I've got a Rockford Fosgate 300/2 amp and 2 JL Audio 12w0-8's in my truck. Running a Pioneer DEH6600 head unit. The subs suck, severely. I dont even have the box in there now. Was a total waste of money time and space in my truck as far as I'm concerned. The headunit is OK, but I've noticed lately it will skip on alot of tracks on any cd. I would have much rather spent $350 on a fueling module for my truck or alteast a boost and pyrometer guage kit. I must have got a bad batch of everything or something, I dunno.

Imo the w0 line of JL subs is the worst. Better to try the w3's. What kind of truck? I've done some pretty killer systems in trucks. I'll try to get some pics at work tomorrow.
BTW, I've been installing for about 13 years now. I'd be glad to help anyone as far as recommendations or technically.

Its a fullsize Dodge quad cab, 2003. The box I built was 15 wide, 30 long, 16 high if I remember right. I took out the center front seat and had it there. There was like no vibe to it at all. I could barely shake a coin off the dash and you had to press your ear to the window to hear it from the outside if the windows were up. I dunno.

12w0 are the cheapest jl sub, you would have been better off with a 12w3 or a 12w6 and the box area makes a huge difference. The lower you keep your OHM's the better to. You could get one 12w6-2 and bridge your amp and run 600 watts to the one sub and it would sound ten times better than 2 12w0's.

Honestly I'm not that big into the bass thing anyways, Not sure why I even did it to start with. If I do anything the future it'll probably be upgrading the door speakers to something that can handle some more volume.

I will definately get some pics to you. We are currently doing a bad ass system in my bosses 04 Ram. Like x.system said, airspace is key. Be careful trying to power a w6 with that fosgate amp, they take alot of power for one and I don't think a 300/2 Fosgate can go as low as 2 ohms. Go with a 500/1 JL amp for better results. Wait till you see the pics.

Got you some pics HondaATC. The first is my bossesd truck, 2004 Dodge Ram(hey, that thing got a hemi), the second is his radio custom mounted with fiberglass trim and colormatched to his truck, the third is the drivers side dash tweeter custom fiberglass mounted in the dash and also painted to match his truck. The last photo is from an 03 ram wtih a custom fiberglass sub enclosure mounted under the seat. The enclosure that is going in my bosses truck will be all fiberglass including the top and again also color matched to the truck. The deck is an Eclipse cd, dvd with navigation, jl audio speakers, jl audio 450/4 and 500/1 amps and it will have two jl 10w6's. It rocks so far, can't wait to get the subs in.

That is a nice setup. I looked into the JL stealth box for under the back seat but it was only for 10's. What'd that system cost in parts? I'm gonna guess right at a $1000 or so? I see alot of people running the solo baric's, are they really that much better of a sub?

Tens are about as big as you would wanna go in your truck(good accurate bass but not to much). The radio alone retails for $1000. total system cost retail is about $3500, not including installation and wiring. You don't have to go to this much extreme. A decent sytem in this truck could be around $1500 in product but installation and wiring and shop supplies will get ya.
The solobaric is a very good sub for accurate bass, but not to good for just plain slammin the hell out of it. The tinsile leads will come loose if played to the max too long. The 10w3 are gonna be your best bet for the money. I think the jl stealth box comes with a 10w3 in it. Retail on stealth boxes are high. If you want I could try to see if I could get you a good price on one. The custom fiberglass enclosure would be around $300 in labor and supplies but that would not include the cost of the woofers.
Threewheelin, what kinda truck you got?

Try putting bass blockers on the speakers. If they are tweets try about a 4.7 mfd, if they are 3 or 4 inch go with 199 mfd, and anything bigger use 99 mfd. mfd=microfarad. I'm not exactly sure what the frequencies are but any audio shop worth its salt should be able to tell ya.
I personally would go with the subs behind the seat in a wedge truck box. Make sure it is secure and that the air space matches the woofer, this is very key.

Oh yeah, forgot about that LCD Screen. Those things are spendy. Like I said earlier, I dont really listen to rap, mostly alot of rock/metal so an insane amount of bass isn't really my goal. I just would like something with a little bit more life like feel while still preserving the quality of the lower notes without bluring them all together. I will probably upgrade my door speakers before I mess with subs again, probably should have done that to begin with. What did you guys use for door speakers on that truck? Are they amplified also or just run off the head unit alone?

I run a cheap and flashy Awia 180W head unit, 4 Pioneer 5 1/4s (plan to stuff 6x9s in the rear later), 2 Infinity tweeters, an Avalanche 500watt amp and a 10" Pioneer (not sure of model) in a nice sealed and ported box. Hits suprisingly hard and the sub sounds awesome, rest is junk lol. All "ghetto rigged" nicely together. Not much $ into it! Ebay rules...

My friend has a standard cab Toyota and he has 2 10's in it behind each seat. They are just running off the Pioneer CD deck (50x4 watts) and they put out quite a thump. It will make the seats vibrate like crazy and it sounds great too. I think he paid $50 or less for them and $100 for the deck.
My van has the stock speakers in it and they are wothless! It sounds like someone took a knife to them when you turn it up. Not all the way up, but up enough to hear while driving on a highway or dirt road. I dont want to waste my money on the van because after I get a truck, I want to put a killer system in it
