Hey all... I see a number of you are bidding on this. I referred to this auction in a thread in Trikesyvania and thought everyone knew what I knew, but see it's gone to a bidding frenzy!

This gearbox is NOT for a 350X. It is a left hand drive gearbox. The seller changed the inside of the auction after I told him about it, but he must have not been able to change the title after it was bid upon.

The outside casing on the 350X gearbox looks the same as the 200X and 81-84R gearboxes, but how do you tell them apart? Ask the seller which way the cable turns when he turns the plate towards the hub. If they turn the plate clockwise and the cable turns clockwise = Left side gearbox = 200X 81-84R (need ratio to know if 81-82 or 83-84) If you turn the plate clockwise and the cable turns counterclockwise then it would be for a 350X or a 85-86R. (it could also work for a 85-87 BR or SX ... I need to know if the casing's the same, then you'd have to look at the ratio)

Just don't want you fellow brothers on the board here have to learn the hard way like me... I got a few of those left hand boxes thinking they were for a 350X.

here's the full thread of messeges I had with the seller last week. Again, I referred to this 2x's in that 350X speedo thread Pat had in Trikeslyvania. I pm'ed "Steiger" about it as soon as I knew, cause he was the only member that had bid on it. (johndeererules)

Goes back to the rule that basically it up to you as a buyer to do a little research and ask the right questions BEFORE you bid!

Bruce

Speaking of ratio's, what would be the % diff if someone put a Big Red gearbox on a 250r/350x. you'd be going from a 25" tire to a 23.5". I am a math wiz, and I figgured it to be about a 6.5% diff, anyone care to double check that?

Your tire diameter will be decreased by 1½"... so

% change = (delta D/original D) *100%

(1.5/25)*100% = 6% So each revolution of your 350X tire will be 6% less than a revolution of the 250 Big Red tire. So your speed will read 6% higher than what you are actually travelling.

Oh... I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn express last night, I am actually a certified ceramic engineer and mathematics and physics teacher! :naughty:

Bruce

PS - However, the best way to see the difference would be to actually measure the diameter of each tire, as the "size" written on the sidewalls are not exact.
